MODESTO - Authorities have arrested a 28 year old man on DUI and Homicide charges in connection to a fiery crash that killed two people overnight.

Alfonso Rodriguez-Quintana was charged in the deaths of two passengers of a blue 2002 Dodge pickup that crashed into a tree near the intersection of McHenry and Sylvan Avenues at about 12:30am Thursday morning. The crash trapped the two occupants who lost their lives, Rodriguez-Quintana was found on the ground nearby.

Arriving first responders found the truck in flames and work to extinguish the fire. Investigators believe Rodriguez-Quintana was the driver of the truck and was suspected of driving while intoxicated. He was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on two counts of homicide, driving under the influence causing injury, gross bodily injury during the commission of a felony and an outstanding warrant.

Traffic investigators are still working to determine the events leading up to the crash. Police are still examining evidence and are looking for any witnesses to the crash.

Police Investigate Fiery Fatal Crash

MODESTO - Police investigated an early morning crash that claimed the life of at least one person Thursday.

The crash was reported at about 12:30am near the intersection of McHenry and Sylvan Avenues. According to a Modesto Police Sergeant, a blue four door pickup was reported traveling eastbound when it collided into a tree on the north side of Sylvan Avenue. The impact uprooted the tree and caused the truck to burst into flames. One person was located outside of the vehicle and transported by ambulance. Their condition was unknown at time of publication.

At least one person lost their life in the crash, and possibly a second deceased occupant was anticipated in the vehicle, according ot authorities. Speed is being considered as a factor in the crash. 

Sylvan Avenue was closed for several hours as police investigated the collision.

Overturned Vehicle near Central Modesto

MODESTO - Emergency crews responded to a report of an overturned vehicle Friday morning.

The crash was reported at about 10:43am near the Central Modesto exit of Northbound Highway 99. Early reports indicate a single vehicle overturned, with at least one occupant trapped.

Two nurses who were off duty stopped to help as fire crews arrived. Traffic was delayed in both directions as emergency personnel worked to treat the injured motorist. There was no update on their extent of injuries at time of publication.

Fatal Crash Investigated in Salida

MODESTO - An early morning crash claimed the life of one person and sent another to the hospital Saturday.

The crash was reported shortly after 2:30am on the northbound lanes of Highway 99 near the Hammett Road offramp. Early reports indicate three vehicles were involved in the crash, with one overturned into the center guardrail trapping the occupants.

One trapped person was extricated from the overturned vehicle and rushed to the hospital by ambulance, a second was pronounced deceased at the scene. Firefighters used heavy rescue tools to remove the person from the vehicle.

The crash closed the fast lane of Highway 99, and scattered debris across the roadway. Stuffed animals, clothing and shoes could be seen around the crash site.

Early indications suggest the crash may have been the result of a hit and run. Officers searched the area for any other involved vehicles with visible damage, but by 3:30am had not located any.

Fatal Crash Reported Near Knight's Ferry

KNIGHT'S FERRY - A crash claimed the life of at least one person Thursday morning on Highway 108 according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at about 8:30am near the intersection of Highway 108 and Kennedy Road. The incident involved a Dodge Pickup Truck and an Infiniti. Early reports indicate the Infiniti may have crossed paths with the truck when the collision occurred, cutting the car in half. One person was reported down in the roadway and pronounced deceased at the scene. Another person suffered minor injuries. Animal services was also requested for an injured dog.

Authorities expected a long term closure due to the amount of debris in the roadway. Both directions of the highway were closed while crews worked to clear the scene.

Pedestrian Killed in Hit and Run Crash

MODESTO - Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle as a hit and run.

The crash was reported at about 5:00am near the intersection of Tully Road and Snyder Avenue. Police closed the roadway to investigate the collision until shortly after 8:00am.

The Crash was being investigated as a hit and run as no vehicle was located at the scene.

Overturned Big Rig Blocks Interstate 5

LATHROP - A crash involving two big rigs shut down Interstate 5 late Monday morning.

The crash was reported to CHP at about 11:52am near Interstate 5 and Highway 120. Early reports indicate one of the big rigs overturned in the fast lane. One of the big rigs was not hauling a trailer, the other was hauling 44,000 pounds of paper product.

By 1:30pm, traffic was backed up onto Highway 205 in Tracy.
