CERES - Police investigated a traffic collision that claimed the life of a driver Saturday afternoon.

The crash was reported at about 5:29pm near the intersection of Ustick and Service Roads. First responders arrived and found two vehicles involved in the collision.

Ceres Police officials on scene of the collision believe the driver of a sedan was traveling south on Ustick and failed to stop at the stop sign, colliding with the second vehicle traveling westbound on Service Road. Investigators worked into the night to determine why the driver did not stop, and wether speed or other factors played a role in the collision. When asked if it appeared the driver may have been speeding, an official noted “sometimes it’s surprising how fast a vehicle may NOT be going that can lead to results like this.”

Service Road was closed at Crows Landing Road, and Ustick was closed at Whitmore Avenue and Grayson Road as Ceres Police Officers investigated the crash.

The deceased driver was only identified as an adult male. At least one occupant of the second vehicle was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, their injuries were unknown.
