Man Shot During Confrontation With Trespassers

STOCKTON - A man was injured after being shot during a confrontation with trespassers Tuesday night, police say.

The shooting was reported on the 900 block of Sunnyoak Way shortly after 9:00pm. Authorities say the victim noticed two males exiting the neighbor's backyard and became involved in a fight after confronting them. As the suspects attempted to flee, the victim threw a shovel at the suspects, who opened fire with a gun striking the victim in the chest and arm.

The victim was rushed to a hospital where he underwent surgery for his wounds. Police say he is expected to survive. The suspects are described as three males, two caucasian and the third an unknown race in their 20's weighing about 150lbs.

Modesto Police Investigate Shooting

MODESTO - Police investigated a shooting that injured one person Wednesday morning.

The shooting was reported during the 7am hour on Ardmore Avenue near the neighborhood of College and West Orangeburg Avenues. Early reports indicate a man entering his vehicle was struck by gunfire. The shooter may have been in a dark sedan and opened fire as they drove by.

The victim, an adult man, suffered a non-life threatening wound to the arm. The shooter was outstanding police say.

Fire Crews Respond to Burning Strip Mall

MODESTO - Fire crews responded to a burning strip mall late Tuesday evening.

The fire was reported at about 11:00pm at a commercial building at the intersection of Yosemite Boulevard and South Santa Cruz Avenue. Fire was visible from the rear of the building with smoke pouring from the attic. Firefighters made entry through the rear of the building to combat the flames.

The building had previously housed several businesses including a barber shop and a Metro PCS store. The building now appeared boarded and vandalized with broken windows and graffiti. Sections of the building appeared demolished, with signs of transient camps surrounding the area.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

STANISLAUS COUNTY - Authorities investigating the discovery of a man's remains are treating the case as a homicide and are asking for the public's help in identifying the victim.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office reports that detectives were called out to the 6600 block of McCracken Road north of Westley on November 18th for the report of a deceased person. Deputies arrived and found the remains of a heavyset man between the ages of 19 and 25. Detectives believe he may have been missing for the last couple of years.

Authorities say that identification is pending due to the condition of the remains. Investigators aren't sure how the body ended up in Ingram Creek and are looking for the public's help in identifying the victim and providing leads.

Two Injured in Plane Crash near Valley Springs

VALLEY SPRINGS - Two men in their 70’s were injured during a plane crash Thursday.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the 10000 block of Hogan Dam Road for a report of a plane crash at an airstrip on private property. Arriving deputies with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office found firefighters providing aid to a 72 year old man from the Lake Camanche area and a 75 year old man from Pine Grove.

Witness statements indicate the plane may have been flying low in an attempt to land when it clipped a tree near the end of the runway. Authorities say the plane is a 1981 Cessna single engine fixed wing aircraft. 

Both occupants were able to exit the aircraft on their own, and were flown to hospitals out of the area by air ambulance. Sheriff deputies assisted FAA officials to investigate the exact cause of the crash.

MANTECA - A traffic collision involving several vehicles closed at least three lanes of Highway 99 near the 120 interchange Thursday morning.

The crash was reported at about 9:31am and involved at least one big rig according to the California Highway Patrol. Emergency crews responded and closed off the left three lanes of the highway, diverting traffic away from scattered debris and spilled fuel.

All occupants appeared to be out of their vehicles, and minor injuries were reported. The involved big rig and a pickup truck suffered major damage, breaking axles and wheels off of both vehicles. One big rig was carrying 80,000lbs of cargo.

Lane closures were expected to be in place for an extended period of time for cleanup.

Head-On Vehicle Collision in Oakdale

OAKDALE - A head-on crash involving two pickup trucks congested traffic Friday morning.

The crash was reported near North Yosemite and Valley Home Rd shortly after 7:00am. The crash involved two pickup trucks, one a Toyota and the other a Chevrolet. At least one occupant was pinned in one of the vehicles requiring extrication by firefighters.

An Oak Valley Ambulance was seen leaving the area with lights and siren. Injuries and patient condition, as well as the circumstances surrounding the crash were not available at time of publication.

Southbound lanes of the roadway were closed with traffic being diverted into a shopping center while crews worked to investigate and clear the scene.

Fire Crews Respond to Tiki Lodge

MODESTO - Fire crews responded to a report of smoke from a building early Friday morning.

Firefighters responded to the Tiki Lodge on the 900 block of McHenry Avenue at about 1:15am for a report of smoke seen from the roof. Firefighters arrived and after investigating located signs of smoldering in the attic space of the office area.

Firefighters inspected the rooftop and after about 30 minutes, the smoke was no longer visible.

Cause and damage estimates were not available at time of publication.

MODESTO - Detectives investigating the October shooting death of a 5 year old boy have released a photo of a vehicle they say is connected to the case.

Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying the occupants of the vehicle, described as a gray or silver sedan. The shooting happened on October 28th on Lake Park Court shortly before 9:45pm, claiming the life of a 5 year old boy and injuring a second child.

Police say they may have determined a motive for the case and are looking for additional witnesses.

Woman Crossing Street Killed by DUI Driver

STOCKTON - Police arrested a 29 year old man following a fatal DUI crash investigation Monday night.

The crash was reported at 9:28pm near the intersection of El Dorado and Martinique Court. Police say the driver failed to see the woman who was crossing the street and struck her with his vehicle. Medics responded and pronounced her deceased at the scene.

Traffic officers responded to investigate the collision.

Authorities say the driver, identified as 29 year old Kenneth Grubb was evaluated and found to be driving under the influence. He was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on DUI charges and held on $110,000 bail.
