Transit Bus Pursuit

BusChaseStill

On July 19, 2013 at approximately 9:48 am Stockton California Highway Patrol Officers received a be on the look out for a stolen AC Transit bus out of San Francisco. Officer responded to the area and located the vehicle on SR-120 eastbound near SR-99. Due to safety concerns for the construction workers, officers waited to initiate an enforcement stop on the vehicle as it traveled on SR-99 northbound.

As the vehicle approached French Camp Road it exited and Officers initiated a traffic enforcement stop. The vehicle failed to yield for emergency vehicles and continued eastbound on French Camp Road at speeds greater than the posted speed limit. The vehicle turned left onto SR-120 eastbound, continuing to attempt to evade CHP Officers.

Officers utilized a spike strip and the vehicle traveled across the spike strip near the intersection of SR-120 and McHenry Ave, which disabled the vehicles right front tire and right outer rear tire. The vehicle continued eastbound until the tires lost air and the vehicle came to a stop along the right hand shoulder of SR-120 west of Cleveland Ave.

The pursuit was approximately 19 miles and lasted approximately 20 minutes. There were no other individuals on the vehicle at the time of this incident. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

Teacher Pleads No Contest

James Hooker Mug shot

Today, jury selection was set to take place in a case involving former Enochs High School teacher James Hooker, who resigned from his job last year, and left his family after becoming romantically involved with one of his students.

A plea agreement of no contest was reached and charges of oral copulation with a person under the age of 18 reduced to a misdemeanor. The charge came about after Hooker was accused of having relations with an underage student while he was a teacher at Davis High School in 1998.

Officials began investigating Hooker after the mother of one of Hooker's students, Jordan Powers, accused Hooker of having a relationship with her daughter. During that investigation the Davis High student came forward. Hooker will have to register as a sex offender and is expected to be sentenced to four years of probation.
