Manteca Man Arrested in Modesto Homicide

MODESTO - Police arrested a Manteca man in connection to a homicide that happened Tuesday night in downtown Modesto.

Dwain Bishop, 46, was taken into custody while walking near the intersection of McHenry and West Fairmont Avenues. Authorities say Bishop confessed and investigators have located additional evidence connecting him to the homicide.

Police responded Tuesday evening to a report of a person shot near the area of 15th and F Streets. Police located a victim in a crashed pickup truck in an alleyway. He was transported to a hospital where he died.

The victim was identified as 32 year old Derek Mauldin of Modesto. Authorities say two people were seen leaving the area on foot. The events leading up to the shooting and motive for the crime are still under investigation.

Shooting Investigated Near Ceres

MODESTO -  Emergency crews responded to a report of a person shot on Pecos Avenue shortly after midnight Sunday morning.

The shooting was reported on the 1400 block of Pecos Avenue. Authorities investigating several reports of gunshots in the area responded and located a victim. Fire personnel and ambulance medics were called to treat the victim.

Early indications suggest the victim was driving through the area when a bullet struck that person in the arm. No information on age and gender of the victim was available at time of publication.

Authorities may be looking for a dark colored Nissan Maxima with tinted windows in relation to the case. The shooting is under investigation.

Arrest Made in Riverbank Homicide

RIVERBANK - Authorities investigating a late night shooting death have arrested a person they say is responsible in the case.

At about 11:43pm Tuesday night authorities responded to the 2600 block of Topeka Street for a report of a person shot. Deputies arrived and found a 31 year old man down in the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives responded to investigate and process the scene and interview witnesses. During the course of the investigation, officials determined that a domestic altercation may have taken place, leading to the victim being shot.

Authorities placed 22 year old Guillermo Medina under arrest and charged him with murder. Medina was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail.

Modesto Police Investigate Shooting

MODESTO - Police responded to a report of a shooting Wedndesday night near the downtown area.

The Shooting was reported just after 8:00pm near the intersection of 14th and D Streets. Officers on patrol in the area heard several gunshots prior to being dispatched to the area.

A male victim was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Early indications suggest he was conscious and talking. No suspect information was available at time of publication.

Six Year Old Girl Shot, Police Investigate

STOCKTON - Police are looking for a suspect after a shooting injured a six year old girl late Sunday night.

The incident was reported at about 11:10pm in the area of the 100 block of East Frist Street. The girl was a passenger in a Chevy Tahoe with her mother when an older white two door Saturn pulled up along side them and opened fire.

Several shots were fired, and the Tahoe was struck on the passenger side. The child was hit by one of the gunshots, and her mother transported her to a hospital for treatment.

The suspect is described as a thin Hispanic male in his 20's wearing a beanie.

Four people were stabbed on the UC Merced campus this morning. he suspect was shot and killed by authorities. According to UC Merced, a stabbing was reported at 8:02 a.m., near the classroom and office building at UC Merced.

Fatal Stockton Shooting Investigated

STOCKTON - Police are asking for the public's help in a shooting that claimed the life of one man and injured two others.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting outside of a bar on the 4500 block of Pershing Avenue just after 1:30am Sunday. A man was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound and later pronounced deceased at the scene by medics. He was later identified as 26 year old Cedric Purify.

During the investigation, two additional victims arrived at the hospital suffering from non life threatening gunshot wounds. The 26 year old man and 21 year old woman were treated for their injuries.

Suspect in Custody After Shooting Deputy

MARIPOSA - A Deputy with the Mariposa County Sheriff's Office was injured during a traffic stop shootout early Thursday morning.

The incident happened at about 6:00am on Highway 49 when a deputy observed the suspect driving erratically. The suspect fled the deputy, and crashed his vehicle into assisting deputies.

Authorities say the suspect, identified as Brian Ballasch from Merced, exited his vehicle and engaged deputies in a verbal altercation. He then opened fire, striking one deputy in the face and torso. That deputy was airlifted to a north valley hospital for care.

Ballasch was also struck by deputies returning fire. He was taken to a local facility for treatment and faces charges of attempted murder on a peace officer. He was believed to have been armed with a .45 caliber handgun.

MODESTO: A man was pronounced dead at a home after being shot during what police say appears to be a targeted robbery Sunday night.

Police received the call of the shooting at about 9:43pm on Pine Tree Lane in West Modesto. Officers arrived to find a man in a home suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He died at the scene.

Police spokeswoman Heather Graves says the victim was home alone when a woman and two children arrived. As they approached the home, two men waiting outside forced them inside at gunpoint. During the incident shots were fired and the man who was in the home was struck.

The suspects fled the scene, and it is unknown if they took anything according to Graves. They are described as two Hispanic men in their 20's and were last seen running on foot.

One neighbor in the area witnessed a child flee the home screaming for help. Police say no other persons were injured during the incident.
