TURLOCK - Tuesday night at approximately 10:20 p.m., police responded to the scene of a reported vehicle collision to find a man claiming to have been hit by a vehicle.

Manteca Man Arrested in Modesto Homicide

MODESTO - Police arrested a Manteca man in connection to a homicide that happened Tuesday night in downtown Modesto.

Dwain Bishop, 46, was taken into custody while walking near the intersection of McHenry and West Fairmont Avenues. Authorities say Bishop confessed and investigators have located additional evidence connecting him to the homicide.

Police responded Tuesday evening to a report of a person shot near the area of 15th and F Streets. Police located a victim in a crashed pickup truck in an alleyway. He was transported to a hospital where he died.

The victim was identified as 32 year old Derek Mauldin of Modesto. Authorities say two people were seen leaving the area on foot. The events leading up to the shooting and motive for the crime are still under investigation.

Arrest Made in Turlock Sikh Temple Disturbance

TURLOCK - Police arrested a 38 year old man in connection to an altercation at the Sikh Temple Sunday afternoon.

Sandeep Singh was arrested on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. Police say the reviewing of cell phone video and witness statements was instrumental in continuing the investigation of this incident.

Authorities from multiple law enforcement agencies responded to assist Turlock Police during the incident. There was an estimated 100 people involved in the fight.

Singh was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail and was being held on $50,000 bail. A press conference was scheduled for Friday at 3:00pm.

Armed Duo in Stolen Car Arrested

MERCED - Police arrested two people Wednesday afternoon after they were located driving a stolen vehicle and carrying a gun.

Just after 3:00pm, police were dispatched to the area of West 12th Street for a report of a stolen vehicle. Officer Ruiz with the Gang Violence Suppression Unit was able to locate the vehicle. Officers stopped it and arrested the occupants.

During a search of the vehicle, officers located a short barreled shotgun in a gym back in the front passenger area. The firearm was loaded according to authorities.

Arrested were 47 year old Jesus Serena and 34 year old Irene Serena. They face various charges including firearm possession, ammunition possession, and possession of stolen property. Both were booked into jail.

Man Detained During Police Perimeter Search

MODESTO - Police detained a man Thursday afternoon after an alert citizen saw a suspicious man in a neighbor's yard.

Police apprehended the man in the area of Kimble Street and Cedar Avenue after a brief search. Officers responded to the area after a report of a suspicious person seen in the backyard of a residence. As officers responded to the area, the man was seen fleeing from the yard.

A perimeter spanning several blocks was established, and a K-9 officer responded to assist in tracking the suspect. 

Officers located a man matching the description of the suspect who fled when contacted. He was quickly detained by police.

Whitmore Closed for Possible Explosive

CERES - Police blocked off Whitmore Avenue between Louise and Rose Avenues Wednesday afternoon after a report of a possible explosive device.

Police initially responded to a report of two vehicles driving erratically and contacted two suspicious men who were running in the area. Authorities were unsure if they were related to the vehicles. During a search of the two men, police located weapon related items and the possible explosive.

The possible explosive was left near a tree at a home on the 2800 block of Whitmore Avenue. Authorities urged motorists to avoid the area. Firefighters and paramedics staged in the Save Mart shopping center parking lot.

At time of publication, the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Bomb Squad was responding to assist in the incident.

TURLOCK - Authorities responded to a report of a large fight involving an estimated 100 people at the Sikh Temple Sunday afternoon.

Deputies from the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office were requested to assist Turlock Police at about 12:30pm Sunday. Officers with the California Highway Patrol also responded. A large crowd was said to be in a fight and were refusing to leave the temple according to reports. Merced County Sheriff's Deputies also responded to assist.

Many people at the temple were carrying religious daggers during the fight.

Authorities attempted to clear the temple, but a large group refused to leave, early indications suggest. Deputies blocked entry to the temple and parking lot.

Several people were reportedly injured during the altercation and exposed to pepper spray.

Past altercations have revolved around leadership of the temple.

Fatal Officer Involved Shooting in Ceres

CERES - Police are investigating a fatal officer involved shooting that occurred Tuesday night.

The incident began at about 9:48pm at an apartment complex near the intersection of Don Pedro Road and El Camino Avenue. Two officers were on foot patrol near an apartment complex in an area known for drug activity when they encountered an unidentified male. The man fled and the officers gave chase.

As the man fled he began to reach for something in his waist area. The two pursuing officers opened fire, striking the man. They began to render medical aid to the man, but he died at the scene.

The shooting is under investigation and the two involved officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard for any officer involved shooting. No further details were available at time of publication.
