Police Seek Identity of Package Thief

MODESTO - Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a woman caught on camera stealing a package.

Police say the woman was caught on video Monday stealing a package from the doorstep of a home near Creekwood Drive and Claus Road.

Police are asking anyone who may know the identity of the woman to contact Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636 where callers can remain anonymous.

Modesto Homicide Suspect Apprehended in Oakland

OAKLAND - A man wanted in connection to the murder of a Modesto woman was apprehended in the bay area late Thursday morning.

Kelvin Simpson, 51, was named as a suspect by police in the death of his wife, 47 year old Shannon Simpson. Shannon was found deceased in her home on Coffee Villa Drive Tuesday. Detectives initially investigated the case as a suspicious death, but it was later classified as a homicide.

Authorities in Oakland found the suspect sitting in a vehicle. They breached a window to the vehicle after Simpson did not respond to authorities commands and deployed pepper spray. He was taken into custody shortly after.

Police Make Arrest in January Stabbing

MODESTO - Police made an arrest in a stabbing that happened in January at a local donut shop.

At about 5:30am on January 1st, police responded to Baker Boy Donuts on the 2000 block of Tully Road for a report of a 51 year old woman who was stabbed multiple times. She was rushed to a hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Authorities learned that the victim had been walking to her car from the donut shop when she was approached by an unknown man and attacked. He stabbed her several times and fled on foot through the parking lot.

Violent crimes detectives worked for several months to determine the identity of the suspect and on Tuesday arrested 24 year old Thomas Kelley at a home on the 300 block of East Rumble Road after patrol officers learned of his whereabouts. Kelley was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for attempted Murder.

East Modesto Shooting Investigated

MODESTO - Police investigated a shooting Thursday afternoon that locked down at least one school campus.

The shooting was reported near the intersection of North McClure Road and Penny lane near Hughes Elementary. The investigation closed off the area and placed the school on lockdown. 

Early on in the investigation police said there were no injuries. The circumstances surrounding the shooting were still being investigated at time of publication.

Man Injured in Weekend Drive By Shooting

MODESTO - A man who was working on a vehicle Sunday night was injured in a drive-by shooting. 

Police responded to a report of a person shot on Moran Avenue just east of Phoenix Avenue shortly after 9:00pm Sunday. Police arrived and found a 32 year old man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed by ambulance to a hospital.

Early reports indicate the victim was working on his vehicle when he was shot by a passing car. Officials say he is expected to survive. The motive behind the shooting is unclear.

MODESTO - Police are investigating the shooting death of a man in a downtown parking lot that also left a second man injured.

Early Sunday morning dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a shooting that had happened in a parking lot near the intersection of 10th and I Streets. Police arrived and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital where he later died.

Authorities identified the victim as 26 year old Jimmy McAny. A 22 year old man later arrived at a hospital by private vehicle also suffering from gunshot wounds. He was treated and released.

Police believe McAny was involved in an altercation with another group of individuals before being shot. Investigators are working to establish a motive and identify suspects in the case.

Authorities Arrest Man Following West Modesto Shooting

MODESTO - Authorities arrested a man on homicide related charges after a shooting Friday afternoon on Vernon Avenue.

Shortly before 3:00pm, deputies with the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on the 1700 block of Vernon where they found a man down in the driveway who had been shot. The victim, identified only as a 47 year old man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Deputies detained 48 year old Joey Hardy at the scene during the investigation. After interviewing witnesses, detectives learned that an argument took place at the home before the shooting happened.

Hardy was transported to the Sheriff's Office and later booked into the Stanislaus County Jail. Detectives are working to establish the relationship between him and the victim.
