MODESTO - A truck driver narrowly escaped serious injury after running off of highway 99 Tuesday morning.

The crash happened at about 7:30am near the northbound Highway 99 off ramp to South 9th Street in Modesto. It just missed colliding into Ceres Fire Station Two, but did crash into a water well and a firefighter’s personal vehicle.

Officials say had the vehicle struck the fire station, it would have hit the workout room which was previously the sleeping quarters for firefighters.

The frontage road was closed while HazMat and other emergency personnel assessed the situation. California Highway Patrol officers responded to investigate the collision.

The truck was hauling about 40 thousand pounds of almonds.
