LIVINGSTON - An early morning bus crash shut down Highway 99 Tuesday, claiming the lives of four people and injuring several others.

The crash was reported at about 3:19am on the northbound lanes of Highway 99 near Livingston. A chartered passenger bus carrying passengers traveling on several stops between sothern California and Washington was involved in the collision with a traffic sign, slicing the vehicle down the middle to the rear axle.

Traffic was diverted around the crash on surface streets as rescue crews worked to carefully remove survivors. Injuries ranged from fatal to minor. Several air ambulances responded, landing on the highway to rush the wounded to hospitals for care.
