Child Killed While Crossing in Front of Oncoming Train

LIVINGSTON - Police investigated a fatal collision that claimed the life of a 13 year old boy Tuesday afternoon.

The collision was reported just after 4:30pm along the railroad tracks near Main Street. Police say a group of juveniles were crossing the railroad as the crossing guard began to drop.

One of the group, a 13 year old, was last to cross as the train approached. Police say the teen hesitated and then ran across but was unable to safely cross. The child was struck and thrown about 50 feet, suffering severe trauma.

Police and medics performed CPR in an attempt to save the child's life, but he was pronounced deceased at about 4:45pm.

Police say the train was traveling at approximately 50 miles per hour. Officials would like to remind parents to speak to their children regarding traffic and railroad safety.
