MORE: Police Seek Child Abducted by Father

MODESTO - The search for a missing child who was abducted by his father Monday morning continues.

The child’s father and several other’s identified themselves as utility workers as they knocked on the door to Kimberly Valente’s home during the 7:00am hour Monday, she said during an emotional interview.

The door to her home was forced open, breaking the frame.

“They pepper sprayed everyone inside,” one of Valente’s sisters said.

The mother took 6 year old Jayce Cosso to her vehicle where she attempted to escape, but another vehicle blocked her path. The passenger side window was smashed and Jayce was quickly snatched and pulled out.

Jayce was quickly rushed away in a vehicle as one of Valente’s relatives attempted to chase after the suspects. They were injured in a fall, suffering injuries consistent with road rash.

Police have identified John Cosso, 41, as a suspect in the abduction. He is the boy’s father.

Modesto Police Investigate Child Abduction

MODESTO - Police are seeking a man suspected of abducting a child Monday morning.

John Cosso, 41, is a suspect in the abduction of a child from a northwest Modesto home police say. The victim is 6 year old Jayce Cosso.

Authorities say Cosso may be in a black 2000’s model mid size vehicle and are asking for anyone who may have seen him to call dispatch at (209) 552-2470 or Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636 where callers can remain anonymous.

Three Alarm Warehouse Fire in Modesto

MODESTO - Multiple fire crews responded to a structure fire on 8th Street between H and I Streets Friday afternoon.

The building is warehouse and office properties, housing several businesses including Crescent Supply.

Shortly before 5:30pm firefighters requested a third alarm. There was no cause, damage assessment or injury reports immediately available.

Clerk Runs For Cover as Gunman Fires on Store

EMPIRE - A convenience store clerk narrowly escaped serious injury after a gunman opened fire through the door of the business Wednesday night.

At about 9:17pm, deputies with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office responded to a convenience store on the 200 block of South Santa Fe for a report of a shooting.

Arriving deputies found the glass door to the business shattered from gunfire.

According to Deputy Raj Singh, the employee at the business suffered a minor injury to the hand. It was unclear if the injury was from the gun fire or broken glass as they ran for cover.

Authorities are unsure on why the gunman opened fire. The gunman did not appear to enter the business, and only opened fire from outside the building. It was unclear if the suspect’s motive was to rob the business or cause harm to the employee.

An evidence technician responded to the scene to assist with the investigation Wednesday night, photographing the broken glass.

The only suspect description authorities had was an adult Caucasian man.

Deputy Singh praised the business owner for having bright lighting at the business. He recommend business owners that operate into the night hours have the same, as well as good quality surveillance cameras. He also suggested not covering windows with posters to allow passing traffic to see inside.

Stockton Police Investigate Triple Shooting

STOCKTON - Police are investigating a shooting that injured three people Tuesday night.

The shooting happened shortly after 10pm near the intersection of Sutter and Oak Streets.

Authorities say a teenager, a 21 year old and 41 year old, all males, were hanging out near the area when they were approached by an unknown man armed with a gun.

The suspect opened fire on the group striking the three victims.

Late Wednesday morning, Oak Street was still closed off by police between Sutter and Stanislaus. Several evidence markers lined the roadway as evidence technicians gathered shell casings and pieces of clothing.

The only suspect description police have is an unknown race male.

Pedestrian Killed in Hit and Run Crash

MODESTO - Authorities investigated a crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian Tuesday night.

At about 8:45pm, officers with the California Highway Patrol were dispatched to Spencer Avenue south of Maze Boulevard for a report of a pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle.

The victim, described as a middle aged man was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.

Witnesses say the victim was walking home with a wheeled basket of recyclables in a southbound direction when he was struck by the vehicle. He was about two houses away from returning home.

Cans and other debris littered the roadway for several yards. A mangled red basket was laying in the roadway.

Officers with the California Highway Patrol closed Spencer Avenue for about two hours as they investigated the crash scene and took measurements.

According to witness accounts, the driver stopped his vehicle and exited. He briefly checked on the victim before re-entering the truck and fleeing.

The driver was described as an African-American male adult appearing to be in his 40’s wearing a white shirt.

The vehicle officers are seeking is described as a white extended cab pickup truck with front end damage.

MODESTO - Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of an Escalon man and believe speed is a factor.

Shortly after midnight police responded to 14th Street between H and I Streets in downtown Modesto for a report of a vehicle collision.

First responders located a red Honda that collided with a tree. The damage was devastating, trapping the occupant and breaking the car in half. Parts of the vehicle came to rest on the sidewalk and against a building.

Investigators closed off 14th Street to examine the crash scene and take measurements, lining the street with markers and using imaging tools to document the scene.

Police identified the victim as 21 year old Roberto Galvan Armaraz Jr. of Escalon. Authorities believe high speed played a role in the crash that took his life.

STOCKTON - A 22 year old man shot and killed Friday afternoon in Weston Ranch was identified by relatives as a popular high school football coach.

Juliese Batieste was a football coach at Weston Ranch High School, a cousin of the victim said Monday night. He left a mother and several siblings.

Batieste was shot at a park near August Knodt Junior High School Friday shortly after 5:00pm, on the 1500 block of Ishi Goto Street. A relative rushed him to San Joaquin General Hospital where he later lost his life.

Police closed off a section of the road and the parking lot of the park as they examined the scene and gathered evidence well into the night. So far, there were no leads or motive.

Pedestrian Killed in Vehicle Collision

STOCKTON - A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday evening in a traffic collision.

The collision was reported at about 8:00pm near the intersection of Stanislaus Street and Hazelton Avenue. Police, fire and ambulance personnel arrived at the intersection to find the pedestrian down on the ground.

Firefighters and performed CPR on the victim, however despite life saving attempts, the pedestrian died at the scene. Authorities covered the body with a sheet moments later.

At time of publication it was unclear if the vehicle involved stopped or left. The roadway was taped off and blocked by police.

Lodi Police Investigate Double Homicide

LODI - Police investigated the shooting death of two men over the weekend.

Early Sunday morning at about 2:00am, Lodi Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Cherokee and Lodi Avenues for a report of two people shot. Arriving officers found two men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Despite life saving efforts, a 35 year old man died from his injuries at the scene. The second victim, a 21 year old man, was rushed to the hospital where he also died from his injuries.

Detectives responded to the scene and searched for evidence and witnesses. Authorities say they will be looking for any surveillance video of the area that may have captured the crime, and that the investigation continues.
