Overturned Vehicle near Central Modesto

MODESTO - Emergency crews responded to a report of an overturned vehicle Friday morning.

The crash was reported at about 10:43am near the Central Modesto exit of Northbound Highway 99. Early reports indicate a single vehicle overturned, with at least one occupant trapped.

Two nurses who were off duty stopped to help as fire crews arrived. Traffic was delayed in both directions as emergency personnel worked to treat the injured motorist. There was no update on their extent of injuries at time of publication.

Early Morning Fire Displaces Nine

MODESTO - Nine people including one child were displaced in an early morning fire on Johnson Street Tuesday.

The fire was reported at about 7:15am at a home on Johnson Street in Modesto. Early reports indicated fire to the rear of a home. Responding fire crews reported a heavy column of smoke visible from downtown.

The two story home was located to the rear of a property behind another home, with all occupants safely evacuated. Downed power lines created a safety hazard for firefighters battling the blaze.

According to the Modesto Fire Department, the blaze started on the outside of the home before working its way inside. Investigators have yet to determine a cause of the fire, and damage is estimated at $100,000.

Red Cross volunteers responded to assist the displaced residents.

Warrants Yield Guns, Drugs and Arrests

STOCKTON - Authorities siezed several guns and narcotics and arrested three men after a lengthy investigation.

The warrants were served on February 1st at three homes on the 100 block of Normandy Court. The location sits behind Kennedy Elementary School, just around the corner on Ponce de Leon Avenue.

Stockton Police officers and an FBI Safe Streets task force served the warrants and located in total 14 guns, ammunition, $14,000 in cash, crystal methamphetamine, heroin, and ballistic vests.

Three men, identified as 55 year old Troy Vanairsdale, 30 year old Lionel Stanford, and 57 year old Vincent McLemore, were all arrested and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on weapons and narcotics charges.

Fatal Crash Investigated in Salida

MODESTO - An early morning crash claimed the life of one person and sent another to the hospital Saturday.

The crash was reported shortly after 2:30am on the northbound lanes of Highway 99 near the Hammett Road offramp. Early reports indicate three vehicles were involved in the crash, with one overturned into the center guardrail trapping the occupants.

One trapped person was extricated from the overturned vehicle and rushed to the hospital by ambulance, a second was pronounced deceased at the scene. Firefighters used heavy rescue tools to remove the person from the vehicle.

The crash closed the fast lane of Highway 99, and scattered debris across the roadway. Stuffed animals, clothing and shoes could be seen around the crash site.

Early indications suggest the crash may have been the result of a hit and run. Officers searched the area for any other involved vehicles with visible damage, but by 3:30am had not located any.

Man Injured by Gunfire, Police Investigate

STOCKTON - Police are investigating a shooting that sent one person to the hospital with an injury Wednesday night.

Police received a call for shots fired and a person injured shortly before 8:30pm near the 8100 block of West Lane Wednesday. Arriving officers located a male victim who was transported to a hospital for care. Authorities believe the injuries to be non-life threatening.

Fatal House Fire in Modesto

MODESTO - An early morning house fire in Modesto claimed the life of one person and sent another to a hospital with burn injuries.

Shortly after 4:00am, dispatchers received multiple 911 calls for a report of a house on fire near Madison Street and Maze Boulevard. Arriving fire crews found a burn victim in the street who was quickly rushed to the hospital. Witnesses reported a second person who was unaccounted for. The home was fully engulfed on fire.

Firefighters battled to control the blaze in the small 600 square foot home, and upon entry located a deceased victim inside. The identity of the person was not available.

An investigator responded to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

Lodi Police Investigate Homicide

LODI - Police are investigating a homicide after a 19 year old man died from a gunshot wound Tuesday night.

At about 7:36pm police responded to the area of the 800 block of Cherokee Lane for a report of a man who had been shot. Arriving officers located a 19 year old man in the parking lot of a trailer park who was suffering from a single gun shot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators responded to interview witnesses and process the scene for evidence. No suspect description was available.

Ceres Police Investigate Shooting

CERES - Police investigated a shooting that sent one man to the hospital with a serious wound Tuesday morning.

Officers received multiple 911 calls for shots fired in the area of Morgan Road and Tranquil Lane. Responding officials arrived and found a man who had been shot in the upper leg. Noting a significant blood loss, officers quickly applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding and provided care until medics arrived.

The man was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Authorities taped off a parking lot area of an apartment complex to examine and gather evidence. Nearby Sinclear Elementary School was placed on lockdown temporarily as officers made sure the suspects were no longer in the area. They believe at least two suspects may have been involved in the incident.

Armed Men Sought in Jewelry Store Heist

STOCKTON - Authorities are seeking as many as six men who entered a jewelry store late Monday morning to rob the business.

Police say the incident happened at about 11:17am at the business near March Lane and Pacific Avenue. Approximately six men wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts entered the shop. One of the men who was armed held the employees at gunpoint while the others smashed display cases.

The suspects fled in a dark vehicle, and no further descriptions were available. Police say an undisclosed amount of jewelry was taken.

Fatal Crash Reported Near Knight's Ferry

KNIGHT'S FERRY - A crash claimed the life of at least one person Thursday morning on Highway 108 according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at about 8:30am near the intersection of Highway 108 and Kennedy Road. The incident involved a Dodge Pickup Truck and an Infiniti. Early reports indicate the Infiniti may have crossed paths with the truck when the collision occurred, cutting the car in half. One person was reported down in the roadway and pronounced deceased at the scene. Another person suffered minor injuries. Animal services was also requested for an injured dog.

Authorities expected a long term closure due to the amount of debris in the roadway. Both directions of the highway were closed while crews worked to clear the scene.
