Authorities Discover Marijuana Grow in Atwater Home

Written by

ATWATER - Police confiscated hundreds of pounds of marijuana in an illegal grow operation found in a home Monday afternoon.

Police made contact with a person at a residence on the 1600 block of Liberty Street who was dried marijuana buds on a patio. The man, who was identified as Luis Pena, met with officers at the front door and explained that the grow belonged to a friend and was only there helping with trimming.

The officers were presented with a medical recommendation for the marijuana. Pena phoned the owners of the garden, Identified as Juan Barajas and Lourdes Sanchez of Winton, who both drove to the address to meet with officers.

Officials explained that the grow was in violation of an ordinance regarding outdoor marijuana grows. Sanchez and Barajas both signed a warrant waiver and gave permission to the officers to inspect the property.

As officers searched the property, they located a room that was used to dry the marijuana. Inside they located several containers with bags of marijuana. Officers confiscated 23 plants and 120 pounds of dry processed marijuana. Authorities say the amount found at the residence far exceeded the personal use recommendation.

Authorities forwarded the case to the District Attorney's office with recommended charges, and listed the three parties involved as suspects in the case. The value of the marijuana is estimated at $270,000.

If Governor Brown wins, we will have jobs lost, decreases in home values, and wells going dry. This effects everyone!By now most of you have heard that the California Water Board just released a report called the Substitute Environmental Document (SED), which recommends that 40% of the water in the Tuolumne, Merced, and Stanislaus Rivers flow unimpaired to the Delta in order to improve the salmon habitat. A better name for the document is the SHAM Environmental Document because it is a smokescreen that hides the real reason why 40% flows are needed. The following is an Op-Ed by Turlock Irrigation District Boardmember and veterinarian at Monte Vista Small Animal Hospital, Dr. Rob Santos, DVM.
