Fire Damages Patterson Home

PATTERSON - A fire that broke out Tuesday afternoon caused significant damage to a home. 

The fire was dispatched at about 2:15pm on the 1400 block of Longhorn Lane. Authorities closed several roads in the area as firefighteres battled the blaze. Reports indicate some neighboring homes were evacuated.

A damage estimate and cause of fire were not available at time of publication.

MODESTO - Detectives with the Stanislaus County Sheriff's STING unit spent their Christmas Eve giving back to the community.

The group in the "Special Team Investigating Narcotics and Gangs" unit identified a family living in the airport neighborhood who were underprivileged. They bought the family's two boys ages seven and eight, and their five year old girl toys and clothing.

The detectives also located several homeless citizens and provided them with bedding and warm clothing like gloves jackets and socks. Throughout the year, the detectives encountered several children across the county that they also delivered gifts to.

Suspicious Fire Damages Modesto Care Home

MODESTO - Firefighters battled a blaze that significantly damaged a care home Saturday morning.

The fire was dispatched at about 8:30am at a residence on the 1000 block of Elmhurst Drive. Arriving fire crews encountered heavy fire conditions at the front of the home.

Fire crews aggressively attacked the blaze from the interior of the home, bringing it under control within 15 minutes. The fire did not extend into the attic of the home. 

Firefighters searched the home to make sure no one was trapped inside. The house was reportedly being used by the occupant as a board and care facility.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and said to be suspicious in nature, and early damage estimates are placed at $100,000. Five engines, a truck, two chief officers and an investigator all responded ot the scene.

Garage Fire Damages Modesto Home

MODESTO - Fire crews responded to a report of a home on fire Friday night.

The fire was dispatched shortly after 9:30pm at a home on the 1500 block of Galvez Avenue. Early reports indicated a citizen had entered the home to rescue an animal.

Fire crews arrived within minutes and found smoke coming from the garage. Crews went to work quickly and contained the flames before they were able to spread to the rest of the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. At time of publication a damage estimate was not available. There were no mention of injuries.

Fire Consumes Home Near Oakdale

OAKDALE - Fire crews battled a structure fire late Monday afternoon.

The fire was reported at about 6:06pm on the 7700 block of Sonora Road. Arriving firefighters found a double-wide mobile home fully engulfed in flames.

Fire Crews from Stanislaus Consolidated and Escalon responded to the scene. Downed power lines created a safety hazard for firefighting efforts.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. At time of publication there were no mention of injuries.

Three Alarm Fire Destroys Downtown Merced Market

MERCED - A fire in an Asian market destroyed the building and its contents Sunday morning.

The fire was reported at about 10:19am on the 600 block of Main Street. Arriving fire crews encountered heavy smoke conditions from the building. Turlock City, Atwater and other fire agencies responded to assist in the blaze which reached three alarms. 

The contents and interior of the market were destroyed by the blaze. The market sold Asian foods and products. The fire caused instability issues with the building, delaying firefighter's investigation efforts.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, there were no reports of injuries.

Two Arrested in Carjacking, Pursuit Caper

RIVERBANK - Authorities arrested two suspects in a carjacking case after a pursuit that ended in Riverbank.

At about 1:00am Tuesday, a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle matching the description of an auto that was carjacked in Oakdale. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle near Oakdale and Crawford Roads, but the driver fled leading the deputy on a short pursuit.

Authorities later found the vehicle abandoned in the area of Bracco Way and Mayberry Court. Deputies established a perimeter in the neighborhood with assistance from Modesto Police Officers. After a ground search with the use of K-9's, both suspects were located and arrested.

The suspects were identified as a 20 year old man and a juvenile male.
