Fire Guts Central Modesto Home

MODESTO - Fire crews battled a blaze that caused significant damage to a central Modesto home early Friday morning.

The fire was reported shortly before 1:00am at a home on the 500 block of James Street. Arriving crews located a home with visible fire throughout the interior of the structure, with flames also shooting out of windows on three sides of the home.

Fire crews went to work to prevent the fire from reaching threatened neighboring homes. Firefighters entered the home to continue extinguishing the fire and conduct a search. The home was later determined to be vacant.

Damage was estimated at $70,000 and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Merced County Deputy Critically Injured in Shooting

DELHI - A Merced County Sheriff's Deputy was critically injured during a shooting while investigating a domestic disturbance Thursday afternoon.

 
The incident happened shortly before 6:00pm on the 16200 block of Harmony Ranch Road. Deputies responded to a home where the suspect confronted them and opened fire, striking one of the deputies. At least one deputy returned fire, striking and killing the suspect.
 
The injured deputy, who was said to be a veteran of more than a decade, was airlifted to a hospital for surgery and was critical.
 
Multiple agencies responded to assist in the incident including Merced, Livingston, Atwater and Turlock Police Departments as well as the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office and the California Highway Patrol.

Turlock Shooting Investigated

TURLOCK - Police closed off South Walnut Avenue Thursday morning for a shooting investigation.
 
Early indications suggest two victims were injured by gunfire at about 5:00am near the Motel 6 on South Walnut Avenue. The area was taped off as police took measurements and placed evidence markers in the roadway.
 
The victims were only identified as a male and a female and were listed in stable condition according to an official.

Fire Breaks Out on McHenry Avenue

MODESTO - Emergency crews responded to a report of a structure fire on McHenry Avenue Monday afternoon.

 
The fire was said to be at a tire shop at McHenry and Stoddard Avenues shortly before 2:00pm. Witnesses reported hearing explosions.
 
Initial arriving fire crews reported heavy smoke and fire. A second alarm was quickly requested.

Shooting Investigation in Modesto

MODESTO - Police responded to a report of a person shot Monday morning.
 
The shooting was reported at about 8:42am near Ashford Court.
 
Early reports indicate the victim was shot by an occupant of a small red pickup. The shooter was described as an African-American in his 20's with dreads wearing a white tee shirt.
 
At last update, police had located the vehicle near Sherwood and Granger and were attempting to locate the suspect.

Stolen Vehicle Pursuit Ends with Arrests

MODESTO - A high speed pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended with two suspects in custody Monday morning.

 
The pursuit involved a stolen Ford Fusion. A California Highway Patrol Officer requested for assistance in the area of Robertson Road Park as they chased the vehicle through the neighborhood.
 
Stanislaus County Sheriff Deputies responded as the pursuit sped through Paradise Road toward downtown Modesto. It then entered southbound Highway 99 and reached estimated speeds of 100mph. The pursuit exited Tuolumne and sped through D Street and north on 9th before turning the wrong way on G Street.
 
Authorities terminated the pursuit at that point but later located the vehicle as the occupants attempted to flee on foot. At last update, both the driver and passenger were taken into custody.

Double Shooting Investigated in Stockton

STOCKTON - Two injured victims were rushed to a hospital after a shooting Sunday afternoon.

 
The shooting was reported at about 4:20pm near Dallas and Connecticut Avenues.
 
Both victims were transported to a hospital where one was listed in critical condition. The other was said to have injuries that were not life threatening.
