MODESTO - Police arrested a man who fled from a stolen vehicle after leading authorities on a chase Tuesday morning.

Shortly after 10am, officers with the Modesto Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle that was reported stolen on north 9th Street. The vehicle failed to stop for officers and a pursuit began.

The vehicle accelerated down 9th Street toward downtown Modesto, where officers again tried to stop the vehicle. The driver turned onto L Street and headed into West Modesto. For safety reasons, authorities decided to terminate the chase.

Shortly after, an officer in the area located the stolen vehicle in an alleyway and saw the driver fleeing on foot toward Walnut Street. A perimeter was established around the block, where officers determined the suspect had fled into a home.

After a few moments, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody. There were no injuries reported.

Report of Armed Robbery Investigated

MODESTO - Authorities responded to a report of an armed robbery Monday night at a south Modesto business.

Shortly before 11:00pm, authorities responded to a report of an armed robbery at a business on the 1900 block of Crows Landing Road. Early reports indicate the suspect used a rifle during the robbery.

 

The suspect was said to be an African American man with a plaid shirt who fled the area on foot. There were no reports of injuries.

Authorities Investigate Fatal Crash

STANISLAUS COUNTY - At least one person was killed in a fiery crash Monday evening.

The crash was dispatched at about 7:13pm near the intersection of the Oakdale-Waterford Highway and Rice Road. The crash involved an SUV and a motorcycle.

Medics arrived and performed CPR on the rider but were unable to save their life. The injuries sustained by the passengers of the SUV were not clear at time of publication.

Officers with the California Highway Patrol closed the roadway to investigate the factors and cause of the collision.

MODESTO - Authorities responded to a report of a person shot shortly after 4:00pm Monday afternoon.

The shooting was reported near the 1100 block of Alcamo Avenue. Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots and seeing one person fleeing the area, possibly wounded. The possible victim was gone before first responders arrived.

DELHI - Authorities with the Merced County Sheriff's Office arrested a man after discovering several stolen vehicles on his property.

Officials say two deputies made contact with the suspect, identified as James Harry, on June 21st at the Liberty Market. Harry was using an off-road motorcycle which he claimed ownership to, however deputies discovered it to be reported stolen.

The deputies accompanied Mr. Harry to his residence on the 9900 block of Palm Avenue to retrieve proof of ownership. Deputies spotted another motorcycle in plain view at his home, which was also identified to be stolen. A large forklift was also visible in the backyard of the home, which was reported to be stolen two days prior.

Investigators responded to the property and were given permission to enter the property. A total of seven vehicles that were reported stolen were recovered from the property. Several other items which were believed to be stolen were located at the residence as well.

James Harry was arrested on charges including possession of stolen property, being a felon in possession of firearms, and operating a chop shop. He was booked into the Merced County Jail.

Ceres Stand-off Ends Peacefully

CERES - Authorities took a suspect into custody after a standoff at a mobile home park that lasted several hours.

Authorities responded to the mobile home park near Central Avenue and Service Road at about 10:30am for a disturbance at one of the units. Early reports indicate a relative of a woman at the home heard what sounded like a fight and called authorities.

Officers responded and determined the man in the home had outstanding warrants, and that the woman had a restraining order against him.

Police and Sheriff SWAT teams as well as negotiators responded after officers tried to talk the man out of the home. Neither he or the woman exited. Nearby schools were placed on lockdown.

Authorities breached a window and used beanbags to attempt to get the man to comply and establish communication with him using a PA system. At one point, the woman in the home appeared for a brief moment. A throw-phone was also brought by authorities to attempt to communicate with the man.

The woman later exited, and officers eventually used teargas to get the man to exit. He was then taken into custody.

At time of publication, no further details were available. No injuries were reported.

Multi Alarm Fire Damages Modesto Home

MODESTO - Firefighters responded to a multi alarm fire at a home on Scenic Drive Monday evening.

The fire was dispatched at about 7:18pm at a home on the 3000 block of Scenic Drive. Arriving crews found a home with significant fire activity. The fire was upgraded several alarms, bringing more resources, equipment and personnel.

Various fire agencies including Modesto, Ceres and Stanislaus Consolidated responded to the incident. Investigators were called to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. At time of publication there were no mention of injuries and a damage estimate was not available.

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY - A fiery crash involving multiple vehicles claimed two lives and shut a busy highway down for hours Thursday morning.

Shortly after 7:30am, emergency crews were dispatched to the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 between Eight Mile Road and Highway 12 for the report of the traffic collision. Early reports indicate at least two big rigs and several other vehicles were involved. One sedan was said to be trapped under a big rig.

Two of the big rigs and the trapped sedan caught fire. Authorities confirmed two motorists involved in the crash were killed. By early afternoon, one lane of Interstate 5 was open for traffic. The circumstances regarding the cause of the collision were under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

Man Found Shot, Dies at Hospital

STOCKTON - Police investigated the fatal shooting of a man who was found wounded near an intersection late Wednesday night.

Shortly after 11:00pm police were called to a report of a man shot near the intersection of Sierra Nevada and Poplar Streets. Arriving officers located the victim, identified only as a man in his 20's, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The man was rushed to a hospital where he later died.

Homicide detectives were called out to the location to investigate the fatal shooting. A red car sat parked with its driver side door open, and a medical kit sat on the ground nearby. Authorities taped off the nearby intersection as a crime scene, as well as Sierra Nevada down a block to the south.

Shortly after 4:00am officers with the Stockton Police Department responded to the 3000 block of Monte Diablo Avenue on a report of a person shot.

Arriving officers located an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound and called for medical personnel, however the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives were called out to take over the investigation. Authorities had no releasable suspect information and no motive.
