Fire Damages North Modesto Home

MODESTO - Fire crews responded to a report of a fire at a home Sunday afternoon.

The fire was dispatched shortly after 3:00pm on the 4100 block of Woodwind Court in North Modesto. Early reports indicate a resident called to report smoke from the neighbors home.

Fire crews arrived and noted smoke from the second floor attic area of the home. As crews were setting up operations, fire broke through the roof of the home.

All occupants were reported out of the home. Further details will be posted as they become available.

Crash Near Oakdale Injures Driver

OAKDALE - A traffic collision that damaged a utility pole resulting in downed power lines and a vegetation fire injured a driver Sunday afternoon.

The crash was dispatched to the California Highway Patrol at about 1:41pm near the intersection of Sierra and Laughlin Roads. Early reports indicated a vehicle collided with a PG&E pole, knocking down live power lines and causing a brush fire.

The involved driver was said to be injured, but was able to exit the vehicle.

No further details were available at time of publication.

STANISLAUS COUNTY - Emergency crews responded to a report of a drowning victim Sunday afternoon at the Modesto Reservoir.

The incident was dispatched shortly after 1:15pm near the west shore of the Modesto Reservoir. Early reports indicate the victim was still under water at the time of dispatch, but was pulled out of water by a witness. 

First responders began arriving at about 1:26pm. An air ambulance was dispatched to the scene, but later cancelled. At time of publication, cpr was in progress.

Bicyclist Killed in Crash

DENAIR - A bicyclist was struck and killed in an early morning crash Wednesday according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at about 7:00am on the 7300 block of East Avenue. Early reports indicate the bicyclist, identified only as a 30 year old man, was struck by a pickup and ended on the right hand shoulder.

The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. Notification of next of kin was pending at time of publication.

MODESTO - A GoFundMe account has been established for a Stanislaus Sheriff Community Service Officer who was killed in a vehicle collision Saturday morning.

 
Raschel Johnson was a 15 year veteran of the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office. She served as a community service officer for about half of that time.

"Her love for her community was shown in her commitment to her career as a CSO," wrote Gina Shoars on the fundraiser link.
 
Johnson is survived by her spouse, three children, two grandchildren and "more friends than she could count."
 
"She loved without reservation," the link said of Johnson.
 
Johnson and Deputy Jason Garner were involved in a collision Saturday morning while responding to a burglary call. The crash happened near the intersection of Crows Landing Road and South Seventh Street at about 8:20am.

Patrol Vehicle Involved in Crash

MODESTO - A collision reportedly involving a patrol vehicle occurred Saturday morning.

The crash was reported shortly before 8:30am near the intersection of Crows Landing Road and South Seventh Street.

Early indications suggest the collision involved at least one other parked vehicle and there were two fatalities. Emergency crews found a vehicle well involved on fire. An air ambulance was initially dispatched but later cancelled.

KINGMAN, ARIZONA - A man wanted by Modesto Police on charges of child molestation was killed in Arizona, authorities say.

Kevin Marcus Robertson, 37, was killed when his pickup truck collided into a pole in the city of Kingman according to police. Authorities in Arizona say they were contacted by Modesto Police Investigators at about 9:30pm with information that Robertson was in the area and wanted on a felony warrant.

According to the Kingman Police Department, Robertson was reportedly armed with a handgun and suicidal.

An officer located Robertson's vehicle at about 9:30pm in the parking lot of a business near the 1900 block of East Andy Devine Avenue. Robertson fled from the officer after refusing to comply with commands, reaching excessive speeds. His vehicle struck a sign post of the Power House Visitor Center after reaching speeds of 95 miles per hour. He was killed in the crash.

The roadway was closed until 7:00am. Authorities are unsure if Robertson, who was wanted on charges of child molestation of a victim under the age of ten, crashed intentionally. The investigation is ongoing.

Woman Shot While Sitting in Car

STOCKTON - Police are investigating a shooting that injured a woman Wedensday night.

The incident happened at about 11:30pm on the 2400 block of Thistle Way. The victim was sitting in a parked vehicle when she heard a gunshot and realized she had been shot. She was transported to an area hospital where she was listed in stable condition.

Police say there is no suspect description available. Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact the Stockton Police Department at (209) 937-8377 or Crime Stoppers at (209) 946-0600 where callers can remain anonymous.

MODESTO - Police are seeking a man accused of molesting a a child under the age of ten who he lived with.

Police are asking for the public's help in locating 37 year old Kevin Robertson. Officers attempted to locate him at a home in southeast Modesto, but he left prior to their arrival. Authorities say he was last seen in the Madera area.

Robertson is said to be driving a blue 1994 Chevrolet S10 pickup with California license plate 62607F1. Authorities urge anyone who may see him or know his whereabouts to call 911.

MODESTO - A car show fundraiser set for Saturday morning is set to kick off Graffiti Summer in Modesto.

The third annual Show and Shine at Parkview Christian Estates is expecting 110 pre-registered cars. The yearly event features cars as old as the 1920's up to newer vehicles. The event is a fundraiser for the low income senior housing facility.

The show brings various cars including a Model A club, Corvettes and others. The first year saw 38 pre-registered vehicles with a total of 70 arriving. Last year saw 68 pre-registered with 100 showing up. This year 110 vehicles have pre-registered.

There will be 45 awards to be presented at the show, as well as sponsor items and vendor booths. For lunch, tacos and burritos by Taqueria Modesto will be available as well as Ice Cream from Velvet Grill and Creamery.

Cars are expected to arrive beginning at 7:00am, with the show going until about 3:00pm. Last year's event raised approximately $5,000 for the senior living facility. The money raised is used toward food for the residents.
