Suspected Package Thief Arrested

PATTERSON - Authorities announced the arrest of a man suspected of stealing packages on Wednesday afternoon.

Lourinzo Mixon, 20, was apprehended by deputies with Patterson Police Services after he was identified through surveillance video.

Mixon is suspected of being one of two people involved in recent thefts of packages from porches of homes. Authorities say they are working on identifying the second person involved in the thefts.

Suspicious Person Call Leads to Drug Arrest

PATTERSON - An alert citizen is being credited in a drug arrest that took place Sunday morning.

A resident spotted a suspicious person near the 1100 block of Shearwater Drive and called 911. The resident reported the man was going door to door and looking into windows.

Deputies arrived and contacted the man who was identified as 31 year old Uriel Gonzalez Hernandez. At the time authorities contacted him, there was no victim of a crime and Hernandez was turned loose. Deputies advised him to leave the area.

A few moments later, the resident called 911 again to report Hernandez looking into windows of homes again. When deputies contacted him this second time, he attempted to hide a large amount of drugs in a vehicle.

Hernandez was arrested and faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, heroin, and coccaine all for sale. He was also charged with resisting arrest and felony vandalism after kicking out a window to a patrol car.

Fire Damages Patterson Home

PATTERSON - Fire damaged a home on D Street early Thursday morning.

The fire was dispatched at about 8:10am at a residence between Third and Fourth Streets. Arriving fire crews reported the home fully engulfed in flames.

Power lines were threatened by the fire. Cause and damage estimate were not available at time of publication.

Two Vehicles Involved in Patterson Crash

PATTERSON - Two vehicles were reported involved in a crash in West Stanislaus County Saturday afternoon.

The collision was reported at about 1:33pm near the intersection of Sycamore and Fig Avenues. Fire crews and a Mercy Air ambulance was dispatched to the scene. The air ambulance was later cancelled.

The involved vehicles were described as a black Chevrolet Tahoe and a Silver Ford Explorer.

Further details regarding the collision were not available at time of publication.

Man Arrested After Biting Mother's Ear Off

PATTERSON - Police say a man was arrested after biting off his mother's ear in Patterson on Wednesday.

Authorities were dispatched to the 1400 block of Granite Creek Drive at about 8:30am after a report of a family altercation. Deputies located a woman with an injury to hear ear as they arrived, who was then transported to a hospital.

During the investigation, authorities say they learned that Marquette Hudson, 43 of Riverbank, was in the process moving out of his mother's house in Patterson after staying there with his family. An argument ensued between he and his mother after she wanted him to move out Wednesday.

It was during that argument that officials say Hudson bit her ear off. He was nowhere to be found when deputies arrived but later turned himself in.

Deputies arrested Hudson on a mayhem charge.

Authorities Investigate Patterson Shooting

PATTERSON - Authorities are investigating a shooting that injured a man Wednesday night just after 10pm.

Deputies with Patterson Police Services responded to a report of a shooting near the 400 block of C Street at about 10:12pm. Reports indicated one person had been injured and multiple gun shots were heard.

Deputies arrived to find a 27 year old male with a gunshot wound. Authorities say the injury was to the lower body. The man was transported by ambulance to an emergency room for treatment of his injuries, which were determined to not be life threatening.

Fatal Crash Reported

PATTERSON - Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that took place just before 11am Tuesday morning near the City of Patterson.

The crash involved a red and white semi hauling an empty cattle trailer and a blue Smart Car near the intersection of Sycamore and Eucalyptus. Officials with the California Highway Patrol say the driver of the Smart Car crossed paths with the truck after failing to yield at the stop sign.

According to Officer JB Peregoy, the truck was traveling north at about 50mph when the Smart Car entered the intersection at about 10-15 miles per hour. The truck was about 50 feet away from the intersection.

The driver of the big rig, seeing the other vehicle entering the intersection, attempted to apply the brakes and swerve out of the way, but the Smart Car was struck, sending it into a tree at a nearby orchard.

Emergency crews responded to the scene where the driver, a 30 year old woman, was extricated from the auto and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Officer Peregoy says drugs and alcohol are not a factor in the collision. After inspection of the truck, mechanical fault was ruled out as well.

Armed Robbery Reported

PATTERSON - Authorities are investigating an armed robbery reported at a fast food restaurant.

The robbery was reported at the KFC on Rogers Road Sunday night at about 9:30pm. Two men who had their faces covered with bandanas used a firearm during the robbery. Taken was cash.

Witnesses say the men fled north from the restaurant. Deputies responded to investigate the incident, there were no injuries.

No Injuries in Latest I-5 Traffic Collision

WESTLEY - No injuries were reported in a collision involving three vehicles this morning on Interstate 5 north of Patterson. 

The collision was reported at about 10:56am near Howard Road on the south bound lanes of Interstate 5. Three involved vehicles pulled into the center median. Two of those vehicles were described as a gray GMC Sierra and four door Honda.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, and an air ambulance was dispatched but cancelled at about 11:15am.

Monday evening four people were killed in a horrific crash on Marshall Road just east of Ward Avenue. CHP officers suspect a Lexus sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed when it crashed into an electrical tower.

Later that same night a single vehicle rollover ejected two occupants on I-5 near the Sperry Road exit. One of the occupants was pronounced deceased at the scene, the second was airlifted to a Modesto hospital.

PATTERSON - One person was killed, and another suffered major injuries in a collision on Interstate 5 near Sperry Avenue late Monday night.

The collision was reported at about 10:47 pm. Initial reports indicate one vehicle crossed from the northbound lanes across the median into the southbound side and collided in the opposite lane.

Two persons were ejected as a result of the collision, one of them pronounced deceased at the scene. One person who called for help reported the involved vehicle overturned several times.

Interstate 5 was closed down for the incident. An air ambulance was landed at the scene and transported the patient to a Modesto hospital. At time of publication, they were listed in critical condition.

A collision south of the city of Patterson claimed the lives of four people earlier in the evening when their vehicle left the roadway and collided with an electrical tower. CHP officials say speed was a factor there.
