Imminent Failure of Moccasin Dam

TUOLUMNE COUNTY - The Moccasin Fish Hatchery was evacuated Thursday afternoon after reports of imminent failure at the dam.

The small facility was overrun by water, which is expected to flow into the Don Pedro Reservoir. Emergency personnel closed off several roadways urging motorists to not attempt to cross flooded streets and highways. Some residences and businesses were reported to be taking in water.

Water rescue personnel were dispatched to assist in helping people who were stranded by floodwaters. They were trapped on a chicken coop. Their vehicles and home on Priest Coulterville Road was underwater. Emergency shelters were also being set up for displaced residents.

Highway 120 at Highway 49 was closed off, as well as Highway 120 between Pinecrest and Strawberry due to flooding.
