Two Injured in Plane Crash near Valley Springs

VALLEY SPRINGS - Two men in their 70’s were injured during a plane crash Thursday.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the 10000 block of Hogan Dam Road for a report of a plane crash at an airstrip on private property. Arriving deputies with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office found firefighters providing aid to a 72 year old man from the Lake Camanche area and a 75 year old man from Pine Grove.

Witness statements indicate the plane may have been flying low in an attempt to land when it clipped a tree near the end of the runway. Authorities say the plane is a 1981 Cessna single engine fixed wing aircraft.

Both occupants were able to exit the aircraft on their own, and were flown to hospitals out of the area by air ambulance. Sheriff deputies assisted FAA officials to investigate the exact cause of the crash.
