MANTECA - Authorities with the Modesto Police Department served a search warrant Wednesday morning in relation to a homicide investigation that began in August of 2016.
Police detectives and the SWAT team served the warrant on Jade Place shortly after 10:00am Wednesday morning. At least one person at the home where the warrant was served was detained by authorities.
Police spokeswoman Heather Graves said a vehicle related to the case was recently recovered by the Stockton Police Department, but had no further details regarding that development.
The homicide occurred on the early morning of August 19th, 2016. At about 2:00am, emergency crews responded to a report of a vehicle that had collided into a tree on Prescott Road just north of Plaza Parkway. The occupant, identified as 17 year old Mark Esparza, died from the crash.
Investigators later determined that Esparza was shot at as he tried to flee another vehicle near Mount Vernon.
