MODESTO - At approximately 11:08 a.m. Wednesday, Ceres and Modesto Firefighters responded to a working structure at Herndon Avenue and Pecos Road.

The fire started on the outside of a duplex building and made its way into the attic.

Both units of the duplex were occupied. Firefighters pulled the ceiling of the building and were able to secure the electrical services.

The fire scorched through a shed, and smoke was visible coming from the rear of the building.

Firefighters had been warned that power lines were threatened at the pole from the rear of the structure and phone and cable lines were compromised.

Turlock Irrigation District was called to help secure power to the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
