Today, emergency crews including the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department, California Highway Patrol and Stockton Fire Department responded to the area of Bacon Island Road along the delta waterway for a report of a vehicle submerged in water.

Boat patrols closed the waterway to boating traffic while fire department dive teams worked in the water to determine if anyone was inside. A tow truck company later assisted in recovering the vehicle from the water.

A CHP sergeant at the scene stated they received a phone call from someone stating they were in the vehicle when it entered the water but managed to escape. That person was not located at the scene, and did not come forward. Officials also say the vehicle, a large Chevy SUV, was not reported stolen.

The vehicle reportedly entered the water during the 5am hour this morning. It has not been determined if alcohol or narcotics played a role in the incident.
