Two Arrested In Modesto Jewelry Store Heist

MODESTO - Police announced the arrest of two suspects in a weekend jewelry store theft that resulted in panic at the Vintage Faire Mall.

Phelan Parker, 22, was arrested Tuesday evening in Stockton after he was located during a traffic stop. Modesto Police Detectives located and arrested 23 year old Kyrin Mckenzie in Stockton during a follow up to the investigation.

Police are searching for a third suspect, 28 year old Wilfredo Robles Junior of Stockton, and two additional suspects who were not identified. One of the suspects is believed to be a getaway driver.

The group is accused of carrying out a “smash and grab” style robbery, where the suspects entered the Valliani Jeweler store inside the mall, and used a hammer to break the glass of several display cases.

The sound caused panic and scare in the mall, as shoppers thought an active shooting situation was taking place. At least two people suffered trample injuries ranging from a twisted ankle to a broken leg.

An undisclosed amount of property was taken during the theft. Investigators are also looking into the possibility of a relation to a similar robbery at the Great Mall in Milpitas, causing similar panic there.

Woman Found Killed After Report of Disturbance

STOCKTON - Authorities are investigating the death of a woman who was found on a sidewalk Tuesday night as a homicide.

Shortly before 9:30pm officers with the Stockton Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance on the 100 block of West Flora Street. Arriving officers and medical personnel found a woman down on the sidewalk with trauma to her body. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to take over the investigation. A large section of Flora Street was taped off by authorities from Madison to Center Streets. Detectives examined the neighborhood and interviewed potential witnesses for information to determine the circumstances to the crime.

Authorities released no suspect information or motive in the crime.

Missing Rafter Located by Air Support Unit

ESCALON - Authorities are crediting team efforts and the Stanislaus Sheriff Air Unit in locating a missing rafter.

Officials say shortly after 3:00pm Monday they received a phone call of a rafter who had not returned from the McHenry Recreational Park near Escalon. The friend stated the rafter had been gone for about two hours.

A search of the area began between Stanislaus and San Joaquin Counties for the missing rafter as friends and family began to arrive. They provided additional information about the young man.

The Stanislaus Sheriff Air Support Unit responded to assist, and were able to locate the missing rafter. He was flown back to the park to reunite with family and friends who were grateful to have him back.

Authorities encourage everyone to wear life jackets near the water and warn that rocks and debris can potentially puncture floating devices.

STOCKTON - Authorities investigated the death of a man as a homicide, after the victim was found near an intersection.

Officers with the Stockton Police Department responded at about 12:40am to the area of Center and Anderson Streets for a call reporting a person down near the area. Arriving officers and medics found the victim with trauma to the body. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to take over the investigation. Authorities did not have any information regarding a suspect or a motive. No other identifying information regarding the victim was provided.

STOCKTON - Authorities are investigating a shooting involving at least one deputy after they responded to a report of an armed man Tuesday morning.

Shortly after 7:00am, deputies were dispatched to a home on the 2600 block of Florida Avenue for a report of a man with a gun. Three deputies arrived and located the suspect in the yard of a home.

The suspect turned and pointed the weapon at deputies, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Andrea Lopez. At least one deputy opened fire striking the suspect. He was rushed to a hospital where he later died.

Lopez said the suspect was a man in his late 60’s, and was in violation of a restraining order at the time of the incident. She was not sure if the suspect lived at the residence or the connection he had to the location.

Officials initiated a protocol investigation, which is standard procedure for these incidents. No other injuries were reported.

MERCED COUNTY - A Winton man was arrested for sex crimes with minors, authorities say.

Teng Xiong, 45 years old, also known as Art Jones was booked into the Merced County Jail and faces several charges of sex crimes with minors.

According to the Merced County Sheriff’s Office, Xiong is belived to have possibly committed the crimes during his time as an elementary school teacher. The investigations bureau is currently working the case and is looking for anyone with more information regarding Xiong’s crimes.

Xiong faces charges of sexual penetration with a foreign object and lewd or lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14.

Sanitation Worker Killed in Riverbank

RIVERBANK - A sanitation worker was killed by the arm of a garbage truck Monday afternoon.

Authorities say the worker was killed by the arm that grabs garbage cans near Homewood Way. No further details were available, OSHA was expected to have more information Tuesday.

Missing Teen Last Seen Near Stockton

MODESTO - Police are looking for a missing teen who is said to be at risk and was last seen near Stockton.

Authorities say 16 year old Thor Read has been missing for nearly a week. Police say he is at risk because of medical issues.

Officials say the teen recently cut his hair to a buzz-style cut and was last seen wearing black pants, a black baseball cap, black boots and had a green backpack. He is six feet tall and weighs about 180 pounds.

Thor was last seen near Highway 99 in Stockton, and police say he could be traveling to the state of Washington.

Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the missing teen to call police dispatch at (209) 552-2470.

Tracy Police Investigate Homicide

TRACY - Police investigated a homicide involving a man in his 60’s Sunday night.

Authorities received a call shortly after 9:00pm reporting a person bleeding near Gretchen Talley Park. Arriving officers located a victim, described only as a 64 year old Middle Eastern man down in the road suffering from what officers say was a traumatic injury. He died at the scene.

Officials investigated the crime late into Monday morning. A motive was unknown, and authorities did not release the type of injuries sustained by the victim due to the nature of the investigation.

MANTECA - An online fundraiser was established for a man who was killed in a shooting on Highway 120 late Friday night.

Rudy Ramirez was identified as the victim in the case. Those who knew him were in shock and disbelief at what happened to him.

At about 10:40pm emergency personnel were dispatched to a report of a traffic collision on Westbound Highway 120 west of the Airport Way offramp. As first responders arrived on scene, they discovered Ramirez had actually been shot, with several bullet holes in his vehicle. He was pronounced deceased on scene.

No suspect or suspect vehicle information was available, and authorities are encouraging anyone who may have seen anything unusual or may have information regarding this case to contact the Stockton office of the California Highway Patrol at (209) 938-4800.
