Pedestrian Killed by Train

STOCKTON - A man was killed late Monday afternoon after he was struck by a train.

The incident was reported at about 6:48pm on East Morada Lane near Fox Creek Drive. Arriving officers located the victim 300 yards north of Morada Lane, who was deceased.

Railroad police arrived to take over the investigation. No further details were released Monday night.

Glass Spill Stalls Traffic on Highway 99

MODESTO - A glass spill on Highway 99 slowed traffic in Modesto Monday afternoon.

The California Highway Patrol said the spill was approximately the length of a football field, and was blocking several lanes. The road hazard was located on the northbound side of Highway 99 just south of Carpenter Road.

Authorities believe the glass came from a tractor trailer that may have caused the spill. CalTrans crews were called to assist with the cleanup. Officials urged motorists to avoid the area.

TURLOCK - A popular Stanislaus County Fair event will be featured on the National Geographic Show “The World According to Jeff Goldblum” on Disney Plus.

On July 16th, 2019 Goldblum and crew attended the motorhome destruction derby event to shoot for their episode about RV’s. The reality series is available on Disney Plus and the episode is releasing on December 27th.

The crew was at the fair for a full day to shoot the episode. The Turlock Lions Club provided special motorhomes for Goldblum.

The Disney Plus website mentions “Each episode is centered around something we all love - like sneakers or ice cream.”

On this episode, viewers can expect to see Goldblum at the RV Derby summer show, touring an RV manufacturing company, and riding with a family who lives in an RV.

The Stanislaus County Fair opens July 10th 2020 for a ten-day run. Discounted tickets and deals such as fair season passes and wristbands will go on sale April 25th.

MODESTO - Investigators with the Modesto Police Department are seeking the public’s help in identifying a vehicle that may be connected to a homicide.

Authorities need help finding the vehicle pictured above, which may have been connected to a pair of shootings in the same neighborhood. One of those shootings was fatal.

On June 12th 2019 at about 7:30pm, police officers responded to a home on the 300 block of Colorado Avenue for a report of a drive by shooting. Early reports indicate a small group of people were gathered enjoying a barbecue when shots were fired from a vehicle driving in the area. Two persons were struck, one later died from his injuries.The victim was identified as 22 year old Alonzo Watkins of Modesto.

Witnesses had described the vehicle as a newer white SUV. Officials believe the vehicle may be connected to another shooting that happened on June 16th near South and Colorado Avenues.

Through reviewing of evidence and follow up of leads, detectives were able to obtain an image of a vehicle captured on surveillance video. They believe it is the suspect vehicle, and could be a newer model Nissan SUV with tinted windows.

Authorities are asking anyone who may recognize the vehicle, or anyone associated with it to contact Detective Letsinger at (209) 342-9667, or Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636 where callers can remain anonymous.

MODESTO - One person lost their life in an early morning apartment fire, officials said.

The fire was reported at about 4:48am at an apartment building on the 1500 block of Robertson Road.

Arriving fire crews encountered active fire from a first floor unit. Firefighters entered the home and found an occupant inside who was rushed to a hospital, however they did not survive.

Several other units were damaged by smoke and water. Red Cross officials responded to assist five adults who were displaced by the fire.

The cause and origin were under investigation.

Update: Teen Killed in Stockton Shooting

STOCKTON - Authorities say the 17 year old boy who was shot Friday afternoon died from his injuries.

The shooting happened shortly before 4:30pm near the 7500 block of Coral Lane. Arriving officers and medical personnel located the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The victim was rushed to an area hospital where he later died.

Detectives responded to take over the investigation. There was no motive available or releasable suspect information.

CERES - A pedestrian suffered major injuries by a hit and run driver late Saturday afternoon.

The emergency was reported at about 6:30pm on Mitchell Road just north of Service Road. Police and fire personnel arrived and located an older adult male down in the roadway who was struck by a vehicle.

Emergency crews immediately began to perform CPR on the patient, and shortly after loaded him into an AMR ambulance and rushed him to a hospital.

The pedestrian appeared to have been thrown or dragged from the initial point of impact about 30 yards.

Mitchell Road was closed while officers investigated the scene and took measurements.

Police had no description of the vehicle that fled and are asking for the public’s help. Anyone who may have any information regarding this collision or who may have witnessed the vehicle leaving the area to contact Officer Freddie Ortiz at (209) 538-5678.

Fatal Crash Investigated, DUI Suspected

RIVERBANK - A crash involving suspected DUI claimed the life of a motorist and shut down a busy intersection Friday night.

At about 10:00pm, authorities were notified of a reckless motorist on north McHenry Avenue. The call was dispatched to the California Highway Patrol, and allied agencies were notified.

Deputies in the Riverbank area were moving into position to begin searching for the vehicle. Officials say as they approached the area of Oakdale and Patterson Roads they discovered the vehicle, described as a white F-150 type pickup. The truck had collided in the intersection with a dark Lincoln sedan.

The driver of the Lincoln sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim was only identified as an adult male, pending notification. An occupant of a third involved vehicle that came to stop just north of the intersection suffered a minor injury.

The driver of the F-150 was taken into custody and under investigation for suspicion of driving under the influence, officials at the scene said. He was also identified only as an adult male.

Deputies with the Stanislaus County Sheriff Traffic Investigation Unit responded to the scene to assist. The intersection was closed for several hours.

MODESTO - Downtown Modesto was filled with characters from the popular Star Wars movies Thursday evening to celebrate the release of the latest chapter of the space saga.

Star Wars Episode 9, The Rise of Skywalker was ushered into Modesto’s Brenden Theater with members of the Central California Garrison of the 501st Legion. The group is an international Star Wars costuming organization.

Scott Simpson, a member of the Central California Garrison, says the group has been involved with the downtown theater to host events like this one since 2002. 

The celebration continued into the evening with live music as well.

The characters will return to the theater Saturday afternoon from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, where guests are encouraged to take photos.
