MODESTO - Authorities with the California Highway Patrol investigated a crash involving a disposal truck that claimed the life of the operator Monday afternoon.

Shortly after 2:00pm, emergency crews were dispatched to the 3600 block of Finch Road for a report of report of a truck that had crashed into a tree. Arriving personnel found a disposal vehicle that had collided into a fence and a tree.

Finch Road was closed for several hours as crews worked the scene. The crash claimed the life of the operator, who authorities identified Monday only as a 52 year old man.

The road conditions were wet with rainy weather Monday afternoon. Investigators worked to determine the factors leading up to the crash.

No further details were provided. California Highway Patrol Officials encourage motorists to slow down during rainy weather.

MODESTO - Fire crews from various agencies responded to a report of a house on fire Sunday night.

The fire was dispatched at about 10:45pm at a house at the intersection of Miller and Phoenix, just north of Yosemite Boulevard.

Arriving firefighters found a home with significant fire activity that was visible from the street. The home appeared vacant and boarded up, with security fencing around it. Neighbors in the area noted that the home had previously burned, and saw squatters at the property recently.

The fire was controlled in less than an hour. An investigator responded to the scene to investigate the cause and origin. No further information was available Sunday night.

Homicide Investigated in Weston Ranch

WESTON RANCH - Police investigated a homicide after a person was shot dead Saturday night.

Officers with the Stockton Police Department responded to the 3300 block of John Townsend Place at about 8:30pm for a report of a shooting. Arriving officers located a male believed to be in his 20's suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Medical personnel responded to the scene to provide care for the victim, however he was pronounced deceased. The victim appeared to have been shot in the middle of the road just off Carolyn Weston Boulevard. Investigators examined the scene and gathered evidence as rain began to fall.

Homicide detectives responded to take over the investigation. As of late Saturday night, authorities had no motive or suspect information.

One neighbor who was arriving home during the investigation described a shooting in the area the previous year, and was concerned about this recent incident.

Two Shot at Thanksgiving Gathering

MODESTO - Police investigated a shooting that left two people wounded Friday afternoon.

The shooting happened at about 2:00pm near Haddon Avenue and Riverside Drive. Witnesses described hearing gunfire, then rushing over to find two people suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police say the victims were among family members gathering at a home for Thanksgiving. One victim was found sitting in a chair, the other was down on the ground near the doorway. Authorities received several 911 calls about the shooting.

According to authorities, a vehicle pulled up to the intersection and an occupant fired several rounds into the gathering. The victims were said to be related to each other. They were rushed to a hospital by ambulance for care. Police say both victims were expected to survive.

Neighbors were puzzled by the shooting, not knowing why someone would open fire on the family, especially during a gathering to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Rita Guerrero, a nearby neighbor who rushed to help and found the wounded victims, said one of the victims was a young man who had recently graduated high school. Police also say they have no reason to believe the family was targeted.

Officer Involved Shooting Investigated

MODESTO – Authorities investigated an officer involved shooting that took place behind the Motel 6 on West Orangeburg Avenue.

At about 9:45pm, an officer called out “shots fired” over their radio channel. The dispatch prompted a large response from numerous officers. An ambulance was also requested to the scene. Paramedics were seen unloading equipment, but left a few short moments after without a patient.

Later, the Modesto Police Department released a statement indicating that officers responded to the location after receiving information that a person was at the motel who was wanted on warrants. At least one officer opened fire while they were making contact, and the person was shot and died.

Detectives responded to the scene to continue the investigation. Officials did not release any further information Friday night.

Major Injury Crash Investigated

MODESTO - Authorities investigated a crash that sent three people to the hospital Sunday morning, one with major injuries.

Shortly after 10:00am Sunday morning, emergency crews responded to the intersection of Crows Landing and Hackett Roads for a collision involving two vehicles.

Arriving responders located a Toyota Sedan that appeared to have collided head on with a white pickup truck.

Early reports indicate the truck was south on Crows Landing and the Toyota was westbound on Hackett. The Toyota may have turned into the southbound lanes at the time the collision occurred.

Authorities closed the intersection to investigate the crash. The driver of the Toyota was rushed to the hospital with major injuries. Early reports indicate first responders were performing CPR on the driver. The occupants of the pickup did not suffer major injuries.

Officials at the scene were looking into the possibility that the driver of the Toyota suffered a medical emergency during the crash, and may have been involved in another collision prior.

Ceres Police Traffic Officers investigated the collision.

Two Pedestrians Struck by Vehicle in Modesto

MODESTO - Two pedestrians where struck by a vehicle in Downtown Modesto Saturday evening. The incident hapened shortly after 7pm at the corner of 11th and I Streets.

Police and medics responded to the scene and offered aid to the adult pedestrians on scene. One pedestrian sat on the ground and one was being transported into an ambulance. The pedestrians were alert and complained of neck pain. 

A dark tan sedan type Ford vehicle remained on scene. No information has been relased on the driver of the vehicle or status of the pedestrians.

Several Detained After Hours Long Stand-off

MODESTO - Authorities detained several people in a central Modesto home Friday night after an investigation led to a pursuit.

The incident began around 4:15pm as detectives with the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office were conducting an investigation into a suspect known to be armed.

A short time later, authorities located a vehicle associated with the investigation being driven by the suspect and attempted to stop him. The suspect fled into the downtown Modesto area and ran into a home on Walden Street.

Authorities quickly surrounded the home and called in the SWAT team. The Sheriff's Air Support unit circled overhead assisting units on the ground. Modesto Police Officers also assisted in the search. As the night went on, a warrant was issued for the location.

The occupants of the home later called 911 indicating they wished to surrender. In total, 5 people were taken into custody shortly before 10:00pm including the suspect sought by officials.

Deputies Investigate Mid Day Shooting

MODESTO - Authorities investigated a shooting early Wednesday afternoon that injured one person.

Shortly after noon, deputies with the Stanislaus County Sheriffs Office responded to a report of a person shot on the 1400 block of Avalon Avenue.

Early reports indicate the victim was wounded during a drive-by shooting. It was unclear what provoked the attack.

The victim was rushed to a hospital by ambulance and was expected to survive.

Investigators were searching for a black or gray Chevy SUV with Texas plates, occupied by two men. The occupants of the vehicle tossed a duffel bag on Sutter Avenue as they fled the area, its contents were unknown.

Authorities closed off parts of Avalon and Sutter as they examined the crime scene for evidence.

Police Respond to Report of Person Shot

MODESTO - Police responded for a report of a person shot early Thursday morning.

At about 1:35am, officers were dispatched to a shooting call near the intersection of Locust Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Early indications suggest one person was found suffering from a gunshot wound in a nearby home.

An ambulance was called to the scene for the shooting victim, who was said to be conscious and breathing.

The only description of the possible suspect was said to be a male wearing all black and a bandana covering their face. They fled on foot before officers arrived.
