Fire Damages South Modesto Home

MODESTO - Fire crews responded to a fire at a home that caused serious damage Saturday afternoon.

The Fire was dispatched shortly before 4:15pm on the 2000 block of Mt. McKinley Court.

Arriving firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions from the front of the home. The fire created a dark column of smoke visible around the neighborhood.

The fire was controlled by about 5:00pm. Fire crews from Modesto and Ceres responded to the scene.

A cause and damage estimate was not available Saturday afternoon.

STANISLAUS COUNTY - Authorities investigated a shooting at a dairy that injured two men Thursday night.

Deputies with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of the shooting at the dairy on the 2300 block of West Fulkerth Road at about 9:52pm.

Arriving deputies found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported by ambulance to area hospitals. An official at the scene said that both victims appeared that they were going to survive their injuries.

The official indicated that both men were shot on the dairy property, but the motive was unclear. Both victims were employees of the dairy, and were cooperating with investigators.

STOCKTON - A man in his 30’s was injured after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday night, police say.

The collision happened at about 10:03pm near Hammer Lane and Lorraine Avenue. Officials say the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Hammer as he stepped into the roadway.

The pedestrian was rushed to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition. His identity is unknown, and police are looking to identify him. 

Police say the driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.

Police Investigate Shooting Death

STOCKTON - Police investigated an early morning shooting that claimed the life of a 32 year old man Tuesday.

Shortly before 2:00am, authorities responded to a report of a shooting on the 3500 block of Harvey Avenue.

Arriving officers found the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Detectives responded to take over the homicide investigation. Authorities had no motive and no suspect information at time of publication.

Third Suspect Arrested in Homicide Case

MODESTO - Authorities announced the arrest of a third suspect in a homicide case Monday.

Police say 18 year old Samuel Cervantes was arrested Monday morning in connection to the homicide of 63 year old Jace Decker.

Detectives with the violent crimes unit identified Cervantes as a suspect through follow up investigation and charged him with homicide.

Authorities say the three are suspects in the unprovoked attack on Decker the night of August 10th in Garrison Park. Police believe there is a gang element in the case, and that the suspects attacked Decker believing he was a sex offender registrant. The victim however was not and later died from his injuries.

On August 17th police arrested Matthew Arguello and identified Ruben Rosales as a suspect. Rosales turned himself in at the Modesto Police Department on Friday.

Police are crediting members of the community and local media for assisting in the case.

Fatal Shooting Investigated at Party

MERCED - Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at a party that occurred Saturday night.

The incident happened on the 14000 block of Greenhouse Road. According to the Merced County Sheriff’s Office, an argument broke out at the party. A 48 year old man stabbed a person during that argument. That 48 year old man was then shot.

Details are scarce, no other information was released by authorities. The case is being investigated as a homicide, officials say no arrests have been made.

Serious Traffic Collision Closes Roadway

STOCKTON - A vehicle collision closed a north Stockton roadway Saturday afternoon.

The crash was reported shortly after 6:00pm near the intersection of Eight Mile Road and Mokelumne Circle.

Early reports indicate a PG&E utility truck and a white Mazda vehicle collided at the intersection.

A passenger in the Mazda was trapped for over a half hour in the car and required rescue by Stockton Fire personnel.

The extent of injuries and circumstances surrounding the collision were unclear at time of publication. The crash also exposed live electrical wires.

Roadways near the scene of the crash were closed as authorities investigated the incident.

Homicide Suspect Surrenders to Police

MODESTO - Authorities reported a suspect wanted in connection to the beating death of a homeless man surrendered Friday.

Ruben Rosales, 25, was arrested by police after turning himself in at the Modesto Police Department Friday. Rosales was wanted as part of a duo for the beating death of 63 year old Jace Decker in Garrison Park on August 10th.

Authorities say Rosales, along with Matthew Arguello physically assaulted the victim without provocation, mistaking him as a sex offender. The victim was not, according to officials. Arguello was arrested August 17th.

Police say both suspects are known criminal street gang members, and the attack was gang motivated.

Taco Truck Robbery Suspects Arrested

STOCKTON - Police arrested two suspects after a robbery attempt at a taco truck. 

The incident happened Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of El Dorado and Acacia Streets shortly after 3:30pm.

Officers witnessed the two suspcts trying to enter a taco truck, who fled as soon as officers attempted to make contact.

As the suspects ran away, one of them dropped a firearm. Both were apprehended, but authorities say one suspect resisted.

Jorge Romero, 19 and a 17 year old were arrested and charged with attempted robbery. Additionally, the 17 year old was charged with resisting arrest and a $250,000 warrant for robbery.

MODESTO - A bicyclist was seriously injured during a vehicle collision Thursday afternoon, police said.

The crash was reported to authorities around 4:18pm near the intersection of 5th and Sierra Streets.

The bicyclist suffered what appeared to be serious injuries and was transported to a hospital for care, according to Sharon Bear, a police spokeswoman.

No information regarding the bicyclist’s identity was available. Traffic officers with the Modesto Police Department responded to the scene to investigate the collision.
