Motorists Escape Serious Injury


MODESTO - A vehicle collision closed an intersection earlier this afternoon in downtown Modesto after a pickup was left overturned.

Emergency crews responded to the area of 5th and I streets after two vehicles collided causing one to overturn. The occupant of the overturned vehicle was able to remove himself. A police officer on scene provided aid until medics arrived. Additional officers responded to the scene for traffic control.

The occupant of the overturned vehicle appeared dazed, and was taken by ambulance for further treatment. Police continue to investigate the collision. The intersection re-opened after a short period of time.

Dive Teams Recover Submerged Vehicle


Today, emergency crews including the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department, California Highway Patrol and Stockton Fire Department responded to the area of Bacon Island Road along the delta waterway for a report of a vehicle submerged in water.

Boat patrols closed the waterway to boating traffic while fire department dive teams worked in the water to determine if anyone was inside. A tow truck company later assisted in recovering the vehicle from the water.

A CHP sergeant at the scene stated they received a phone call from someone stating they were in the vehicle when it entered the water but managed to escape. That person was not located at the scene, and did not come forward. Officials also say the vehicle, a large Chevy SUV, was not reported stolen.

The vehicle reportedly entered the water during the 5am hour this morning. It has not been determined if alcohol or narcotics played a role in the incident.

At Risk Patterson Woman Missing


PATTERSON – The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department ist currently seeking the public's assistance in locating 19-year old Sydni Nicole Sherrill of Patterson, CA. Sydni was reported missing on Friday, 05/24/2013, by her family. Sydni was last scene at home in the 800 block of Miraggio Dr in Patterson on Friday 05/24/2013 at about 1:00 PM.

Sydni is considered an at-risk missing person due to being developmentally disabled and having a mental capacity of a young child. Sydni does not own or have access to a vehicle and is believed to have left on foot.

Sydni is described as an African-American female, 5-foot 6-inches tall, 125 pounds with brown eyes and black shoulder length straight hair. It is unknown what Sydni was last wearing before she was reported missing.

Anyone with information about Sydni Nicole Sherrill or her whereabouts is urged to call 9-1-1 or the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department non-emergency line at 209-552-2468.

Crews Handle Vegetation Fire


Today just after 2:30 pm crews with the Modesto Regional Fire Authority responded to the area of Empire and Conejo for a report of a vegetation fire.

About a quarter acre was discovered to be burning, along with some old tires that had been left on the property.

Fire crews had the situation under control after about 40 minutes, an investigator also responded to the scene.

None of the neighboring homes were damaged in the incident.

Patterson Homes Damaged By Fire

PATTERSON - On Tuesday May 21st, fire crews from various agencies responded to the 1400 block of Jake Creek Drive in Patterson for a structure fire that was upgraded to two alarms after the fire spread from one home to the next.

Fire officials have not determined a cause. The fire originated in a backyard shed. Officials have ruled out arson or any electrical cause.

At the same time, a vegetation fire broke out at Laird Park near the Stanislaus County Honor Farm. Winds drove the fires to spread quickly, causing fire crews to call on additional resources.

Red Cross responded to both homes to assist the families displaced on Jake Creek.

Crews Keep Fire In Check


On Tuesday, fire crews with the Modesto Regional Fire Authority responded to the area of the 100 block of Laurel Avenue for multiple reports of fire. When crews arrived, they found what appeared to be a debris and vegetation fire threatening nearby structures.

At one point additional resources were called to the scene as it may have been believed that the fire had spread to a nearby home. A woman was assisted out of the home and an ambulance was called to the scene for her care.

Fire officials would like to remind the public to keep the areas surrounding your properties clear of vegetation and debris in a 100 foot radius. Defensible space helps firefighters protect your property in the event of a fire.

Multi Agency Gang Sweep


On Wednesday, officials from multiple agencies at local, state, and federal level conducted a large gang sweep throughout various locations in Stanislaus County.

In total, 89 locations were searched, 9 guns, 2 assault rifles ceased, 2 marijuana grows and 2 ounces of meth found, and 29 people were arrested. In total 100 agents participated in the operation.

This operation was implemented due to an increase in gang related violence over the past several years. The County has continued to see an increase in gang related crimes, including homicides, drive-by shootings, and assaults. Drive-by shootings, specifically between Norteno and Sureno streets gangs, have spiked recently; with two Sureno gang members shot and killed in the last month.

The agencies have committed to several more operations similar to this one throughout the summer.

Police Respond To Shots Fired


Modesto Police responded to the airport neighborhood on Monday night after a report of shots fired.

Residents in the neighborhood tell CVTV that shots were fired from a passing vehicle at a home near Empire and Monterey. Police responding to the area established a perimeter and brought an armored truck and requested assistance from the Sheriff's air support unit.

Three people that attempted to flee through the alley were detained, and a shotgun was recovered. No specifics as to their role in the incident were available at this time.

SACRAMENTO – Gov. Jerry Brown is using his revised budget plan to call for changes to the way public schools are funded. He released the plan Tuesday morning.

Brown wants to use much of the surge in 2013 tax revenue to funnel $2.9 billion to K-12 public schools and community colleges, as called for by Proposition 98.

Brown also wants to send more money to districts with lower-income children or students who are learning English.

Police Investigate Auto Theft Surge


Los Banos Police are investigating a rash of auto thefts and are warning residents to protect their vehicles.

On May 7th, authorities took reports of several stolen Honda Civics and Accords. Officers located and recovered four out of the five stolen at various locations in the city.

“Car alarms, steering wheel club devices, and parking your vehicles in the garage are just some of the ways to reduce your risk of being targeted by potential thieves." Police Commander Ray Reyna said in a news release.
