Veterinary Center Damaged by Fire

TURLOCK - Several fire crews responded to a report of a fire at a veterinary hospital early Wednesday morning.

The fire was dispatched at about 4:00am on the 1300 block of South First Street. Arriving fire crews reported heavy fire from behind a building.

A second alarm was quickly called to bring additional resources to the scene. An investigator responded as well to determine the cause.

Early reports indicate a storage unit on the property was well engulfed in fire, threatening the main building and one additional structure.

MODESTO - Authorities investigated a collision that sent a pedestrian to a hospital with major injuries, closing a roadway early Monday morning.

The collision happened early Monday morning near the intersection of McHenry Avenue and Claribel Road. The collision was dispatched to the California Highway Patrol shortly after 1:00am.

Early reports indicate the involved vehicle struck the pedestrian and continued north on McHenry. The pedestrian, only described as a male, was reported to be down in the roadway when they were struck by the vehicle.

The car was described as a silver sedan, possibly a Cadillac. The pedestrian was rushed to a local hospital by ambulance.

Fatal Crash Investigated, DUI Suspected

RIVERBANK - A crash involving suspected DUI claimed the life of a motorist and shut down a busy intersection Friday night.

At about 10:00pm, authorities were notified of a reckless motorist on north McHenry Avenue. The call was dispatched to the California Highway Patrol, and allied agencies were notified.

Deputies in the Riverbank area were moving into position to begin searching for the vehicle. Officials say as they approached the area of Oakdale and Patterson Roads they discovered the vehicle, described as a white F-150 type pickup. The truck had collided in the intersection with a dark Lincoln sedan.

The driver of the Lincoln sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim was only identified as an adult male, pending notification. An occupant of a third involved vehicle that came to stop just north of the intersection suffered a minor injury.

The driver of the F-150 was taken into custody and under investigation for suspicion of driving under the influence, officials at the scene said. He was also identified only as an adult male.

Deputies with the Stanislaus County Sheriff Traffic Investigation Unit responded to the scene to assist. The intersection was closed for several hours.

Authorities Investigate Major Traffic Crash

MODESTO - Authorities investigated a crash that happened after a pursuit early Wednesday morning.

Police say the incident happened at about 1:30am. The pursuit involved a Ceres Police Officer.

The collision happened on Oakdale Road near County Center Three in the northbound lanes.

The vehicle that fled the officer appeared to hit a tree along the roadway before splitting in half. The back half of the car came to rest in the roadway, the front half stopped against another tree in front of a Jack in the Box restaurant.

Car seats, wheels and exhaust lines littered the roadway.

A police sergeant at the scene could not provide more details regarding the driver or other occupants of the vehicle, or any other details regarding the pursuit.

The investigation was conducted by both Ceres and Modesto Police Departments, due to the pursuit involving Ceres PD and the crash taking place in Modesto city limits.

Further details are expected as the investigation unfolds.

Bicyclist Killed by Train

EMPIRE - A bicyclist was killed after being struck by a train Tuesday morning.

The collision happened shortly after 8:00am near the intersection of Church and Second Streets.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene, however the bicyclist was pronounced deceased.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. No further information was available at publication time.

Traffic near Yosemite and Santa Fe was congested due to the crash.

Officer Involved Shooting Investigated

MODESTO – Authorities investigated an officer involved shooting that took place behind the Motel 6 on West Orangeburg Avenue.

At about 9:45pm, an officer called out “shots fired” over their radio channel. The dispatch prompted a large response from numerous officers. An ambulance was also requested to the scene. Paramedics were seen unloading equipment, but left a few short moments after without a patient.

Later, the Modesto Police Department released a statement indicating that officers responded to the location after receiving information that a person was at the motel who was wanted on warrants. At least one officer opened fire while they were making contact, and the person was shot and died.

Detectives responded to the scene to continue the investigation. Officials did not release any further information Friday night.

Several Detained After Hours Long Stand-off

MODESTO - Authorities detained several people in a central Modesto home Friday night after an investigation led to a pursuit.

The incident began around 4:15pm as detectives with the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office were conducting an investigation into a suspect known to be armed.

A short time later, authorities located a vehicle associated with the investigation being driven by the suspect and attempted to stop him. The suspect fled into the downtown Modesto area and ran into a home on Walden Street.

Authorities quickly surrounded the home and called in the SWAT team. The Sheriff's Air Support unit circled overhead assisting units on the ground. Modesto Police Officers also assisted in the search. As the night went on, a warrant was issued for the location.

The occupants of the home later called 911 indicating they wished to surrender. In total, 5 people were taken into custody shortly before 10:00pm including the suspect sought by officials.
