As police officers arrived, a couple in one residence barricaded themselves in a room fearing for their safety. Police then called the suspect out who charged at an officer, tackling him in the process. Police used physical holds, a taser and beanbags on the suspect who was thrashing at officers before subduing him. It is believed that he was under the influence of a substance.

As the suspect was being taken into custody, he suffered a medical emergency. Police had requested medics to stage in the area, and personnel began performing CPR on the suspect. He was transported to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

Police are treating the case as a critical officer-involved incident. The involved officers have been placed on a standard paid administrative leave as the investigation continues. The officers did not suffer major injuries during the incident.
