The pedestrian was rushed to a local hospital with major injuries.

Officials at the scene say the pedestrian was attempting to cross Coffee Road in an eastbound direction when the collision occurred. The vehicle was traveling in a southbound direction. The driver of the car stopped and cooperated with authorities investigating the crash.

Police urge pedestrians and motorists to be safe on the road. In 2019, the traffic investigation unit responded to 19 serious collisions involving pedestrians. Of those, the pedestrians were found to be at fault in ten of those cases. Out of those 19, eight of them were fatal. In six of those fatality collisions, the pedestrians were found to be at fault.

Officers plan to hand out reflective safety vests and wristbands this year to pedestrians through a grant from the office of traffic safety.

Anyone with information regarding this collision, or who may have witnessed it is encouraged to call the Modesto Police Department.
