STOCKTON - Residents in the Brookside community of Stockton are being warned after the discovery of a very aggressive mosquito species.

Officials say the mosquitos are very aggressive, difficult to control and can potentially carry diseases like Zika and Dengue. San Joaquin Mosquito & Vector personnel are going door to door asking to inspect every yard to eliminate breeding sources.

District officials are also asking for homeowners to help them in allowing inspections to take place, adding that several generations of mosquitos can spawn from one female. The insect lays the eggs individually at various levels, so when water reaches each egg, they hatch.

These eggs are placed on items such as flowerpots, tires, saucers, yard drains and even bottle caps.

It is always a good idea to eliminate any sources of standing water, avoid being outdoors at dawn and sunset, and wear insect repellent containing deet.
