Modesto Police investigators have identified the suspect responsible for shooting at the driver of a vehicle, which caused a chain reaction of events.

On Wednesday May 9th, just a little after 7:00 P.M., Modesto Police officers were called to Robertson Road Park, located at 500 Hammond Street in west Modesto, for a reported shooting. When officers arrived, they located the victim, a 21-year-old male Modesto resident, sitting in the driver’s seat of a black BMW vehicle. The victim suffered from at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The initial investigation has revealed the victim and his friend, an 18-year-old male Modesto resident, were involved in some type of altercation with a group of males at the park, earlier in the evening. The altercation escalated and when the victim and friend tried to leave the park in a BMW, a suspect from within the group at the park fired several shots at the BMW. The victim, who was driving, was struck at least once as he continued to speed away. The victim hit a parked car, struck a fire hydrant, and hit two pedestrians before hitting a second parked car and coming to a rest. The two pedestrians were treated at local hospitals and sustained minor to moderate injuries as a result from being hit by the BMW. The shooting victim’s friend, who was the passenger in the car, did not suffer any injuries.

Modesto Police detectives have identified shooting suspect as Enrique Tarango, a 17-year-old Modesto resident. Tarango is 5’8” tall and weighs 250 lbs. He is a documented criminal street gang member and is considered armed and dangerous. Tarango is wanted for attempted murder and a gang enhancement. He has an active no bail warrant for his arrest.

Investigators believe the altercation and shooting was gang-related.

Modesto Police are investigating a “Smash and Grab” type of a burglary that occurred last night at a north Modesto jewelry store. The suspects were able to take thousands of dollars worth of jewelry before fleeing the business.

On Thursday, May 10th at about 11:23 P.M., Modesto Police officers were called to Rogers Jewelers, located at 3600 Sisk Road, for a report of a commercial burglary that just occurred. When Officers arrived they discovered a red truck had been driven into the front doors of the business and left abandoned. Surveillance video from the business showed 4-5 suspects entered the jewelry store and took various jewelry items. The suspects then fled the store leaving the truck behind.

Officers determined the truck had recently been stolen from a nearby neighborhood. Officers located a trail of stolen jewelry, which led the officers across Sisk Road, thru an opening at the chain link fence that borders the northbound Highway 99 freeway and onto the shoulder of the freeway itself. After a few yards the trail ended, which indicated the suspects may have gotten into a waiting vehicle along the side of the freeway.

In the surveillance video, the suspects were seen wearing dark colored hooded sweatshirts and hats, which concealed their identities.

Investigators are looking into the possibility that the altercation and shooting may have been gang-related. At this point in the investigation, limited information is known about the shooting suspect. He described as being a Hispanic male in his mid-20’s, 5’-6” tall, and weighing approximately 280lbs. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

On December 01, 2011 Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Bait Barn located at 12505 Yosemite Blvd in Waterford, CA for an infant found in a garbage can. Fire personnel immediately responded and the infant was pronounced deceased.

Over the last five months Detective Jon McQueary has continued to work on the investigation. As part of the investigation Detective McQueary submitted DNA evidence gathered at the crime scene in an attempt to get a match, so he could identify the deceased baby’s mother. Last week Detective McQueary received a DNA profile for a potential mother, but he does not have a name yet.

Detective McQueary is hoping that someone will be willing to come forward and provide him information that will help to identify the mother in this investigation.

Detectives from the Stockton Police Department developed information that Angel Baca
and Steven Baca were involved in the homicide of Randal Valdivia. Valdivia was
murdered on May 1, 2012 in the area of Sutter Street and Washington Street in
Downtown Stockton.
Yesterday, members from the Stockton Police Department Gang Street Enforcement
Team (GSET) and the Fugitive Apprehension Team (US Marshal’s) arrested Angel
Baca and Steven Baca in the area of Sierra Nevada Street and Harding Way.
Detectives investigating this homicide believe the homicide was gang-related. Both
Angel Baca and Steven Baca are documented gang members with the Stockton
Police Department. The victim, Randal Valdivia, was also gang-affiliated.
The suspect, Angel Baca, Hispanic male, 18 years old, a resident of Stockton, was
subsequently booked into the San Joaquin County Jail for homicide and gangrelated
charges.
