On Saturday July 13th at about 11:30pm, officers with the California Highway Patrol responded to the area of southbound Interstate 5 near Mathews Road. Authorities say that a 52 year old woman in a wheelchair was in the median of the highway before she was struck while trying to cross to the right shoulder.

Authorities say the woman was struck by a van traveling about 65 miles per hour in the middle lane. She suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

There were no 911 calls reporting the woman in the wheelchair before the crash. Investigators are looking at the possibility of the death as a suicide. Authorities do not believe the driver of the van was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The highway was closed down for about two and a half hours while officers investigated the collision.

Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact the Stockton CHP Office at (209) 938-4800.

Police say the victim was suffering from gunshot wounds, and was rushed to the hospital where she died from her injuries. The violent crimes unit responded to investigate the case and determine who was responsible for the shooting.

During the investigation, detectives developed information that led them to 20 year old Favian Ramirez. Police say Ramirez made a purchase at the business and then shot the clerk. He grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and fled the scene.

Authorities say the key to locating Ramirez was the vehicle he was driving. Police say he was test driving the car from a used car dealership during the incident. The dealership assisted in identifying Ramirez.

SWAT teams, detectives, and other specialized units located the suspect in the vehicle leaving a residence in Ceres. Ramirez attempted to flee the area when he spotted authorities. Authorities were able to locate and arrest him after setting up a perimeter near Central and Pleasant Avenues.
