Child's Torture, Death Leads to Couple's Arrest

MODESTO - Authorities arrested a couple after investigating the abuse, torture and death of a child this week.

Officials say a 911 call was placed March 1st for a report of a child not breathing at a home on the 300 block of Standiford Avenue. First responders arrived and began performing life-saving measures on the child, who authorities identified as three year old Gilbert Escamilla.

The child was transported to a hospital in critical condition and flown to Madera Children's hospital. Investigators were notified Thursday morning that Gilbert had passed away.

Authorities described the child's injuries as burns, lacerations and bruising. The cause of death has not been determined.

Detectives began an investigation after learning how badly injured the child was, processing the home for evidence and interviewing relatives that live there. The investigation led to the arrest of the 24 year old Connie Escamilla, the child's mother. She faces a charge of murder in the child's death. Escamilla's fiance, 20 year old Kylie Beasley, was also arrested on murder and torture charges.

Escamilla's seven year old daughter was placed into protective custody.

Justice will be served behind bars....inmates don't take kindly to people who hurt kids and old people.
